  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you regret owning the 4.6

i BOUGHT a new GP GXP (also black) in late '05 this car has moe class in the left rear wheel than the GP GXP all together lol

We had 2 '05 grand prix's at one point. The G8 GXP was a lot nicer looking than those, and had a LOT more power. Yet your statement stands, the Genesis takes it to a totally different level.

I have never considered a FWD car much less one with a big V8. A recipe for massive torque steer. I had just sold an 06 GTO 6M and was primarily interested in the G8 GXP with the 6M trans. When that was gone my search was a manual trans mid sized luxury car which means the BMW 550i. Very few are used and in the CPO program so I really had to widen the search. Genesis 4.6 was the perfect option. I am glad that I was not able to buy the G8 because they turned out to be poorly made, not entirely reliable and parts supplies are drying up making service iffy. But, they sure were fast.

No regrets whatsoever. I was driving a 2008 350Z Grand Touring before this car, and I am a fan of the bigger engine and other luxury features. And for me, fuel efficiency (and being able to use non-premium gas all of the time) is better than what I drove before the Genesis. Plus really like having a sun roof again.

I totally regret having bought my 2009 V8 4.6L.
Knowing that 3 years later a 5.0L is now available is driving me nuts!

I shoulda waited till 2012...I'm an idiot for not knowing!

But then again...maybe in 2015 a 6.0L will be available.:)

I'm hoping for a 6.2L 580+hp. Ok, I know, but its nice to dream.

Reportedly, Hyundai has abandoned the supercharged set-up w/ the Tau, instead, going to a twin turbo set-up.

Sometime down the road, I can see Hyundai launch a performance line w/ over 500HP; the R-Spec is more of a sport trim than a real performance line.

No regret...
I just hope I can get 300 miles to a tank in mixed city/highway.
Only got 240 on the first dealer fill of 9/10ths of a tank.
Only had it a week, cant stop smiling.:D

not until the economy starts to build REAL steam. i have a bad feeling we haven't seen the worst yet.

Nada, zip, zero.

All the positive posters for the 4.6 have already said what I would have said. Mine's an '09. Would it have been worth waiting 3 more years for an additional 0.4L? Naw. By the time I wear this one out and am ready to buy another, the Genny will have a 6.0L and a 15-speed tranny ;)

and still get the same combined mpg lol...

surprised to see the '12 4.6 still gets combined mpg rating of 20mpg... guess the only real improvement is passing power with the 8speed trans?? This engine must really be perfected then!

Hyundai 8-speed may get slightly better MPG than ZF 6 speed, but maybe not enough to go up one MPG (rounded). In any case, I am sure that using the Hyundai built transmission is cheaper for them in the long run, especially since it will be used on a lot of different Hyundai-Kia vehicles over the lifetime of the design.

I've got no regrets in going 4.6 over 3.8. Not at all.

I really wanted the added accoutrements of the 4.6, so for me, besides the solid engine difference, it was well worth upgrading for the extras. I wanted the DIS, the cooled driver seat, et al. I think the minor, albeit impactful design touches on the 4.6--such as the chrome trim, lighted Genesis doorstep, etc--really make this car "punch above its weight" as it were. It adds those little lux touches that you'd expect in a much more expensive vehicle and still does so for a reasonable price.

Don't regret it for a nanosecond.

My father in law was in town this past weekend and we drove arond in it, went to dinner all together, went golfing. He was really impressed by it and I think more impressed that I didn't spend too much on a vehicle just to "keep up with the Joneses". And the Bentley observation came up too with the rebadging package.

My take is that they left the engine alone so that the horsepower rating of the R-spec would stand out more. They added direct injection to the V6 and the R-spec but not the standard V8. Had they done so, it probably would've closed the gap too much in power from a marketing standpoint.

Not a chance. I love the power of the 4.6 , when buying a premium sedan cylinder count starts at 8. (best is still a perfect balanced 12).
A 6, in a large executive sedan, seems odd to me, sure it can work. BMW does well with the turbo 6, and the 6 in the Genesis is enough, but buying a car like this isn't about enough, it is about more. and the v8 provides that.

Don't forget the V8 has the LSD! At least in the '09 version.:D

Not sure if that was ever confirmed. That whole discussion became confused about the difference between hardware LSD and software LSD, and the marketing claims made by some at Hyundai who probably didn’t know (or didn’t care) about the difference.

BMW apparently abandoned hardware LSD a while ago for all vehicles except M series, because the software version works just as well, except for people who are actually racing (not people who "think" they are race car drivers).

The 4.6 appears to be a dead-letter. Phased out after 2012. That is probably why no changes were made.

My vehicle for example leaves 2 nice strips on the pavement, and very even I may add. It doesn't have the 1 wheeled wonder like the V6. Need more info?
