  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you regret owning the 4.6

My vehicle for example leaves 2 nice strips on the pavement, and very even I may add. It doesn't have the 1 wheeled wonder like the V6. Need more info?
Not me. I spend every driving moment trying to avoid leaving tire tracks on the pavement, either intentionally or by necessity. Software LSD works just as well in almost all real-world cases (except showing-off).

The 4.6 appears to be a dead-letter. Phased out after 2012. That is probably why no changes were made.
I doubt we will see the same exact 5.0 on the non-R-Spec Genesis in 2013, due to noticeably worse fuel mileage than current 4.6. Maybe some detuned version of the 5.0 that gets better MPG. Hyundai is very conscious of fuel mileage, especially as new CAFE limits are on the horizon.

^ Yeah, I'm thinking a detuned version of the 5.0 with the R-Spec's 5.0 getting a small bump in HP.

With the 8 spd AT and the 3.8 and 5.0 having GDI, there's not much more to do aside from tweaking with regard to the powertrain for the next gen Genesis.

Hyundai should be able to concentrate on the exterior/interior design and spend more $$ on quality of the interior materials.

The 10 spd AT should be ready for the 2nd gen Genesis' refresh, along with some engine developments, including cylinder deactivation.

Absolutely not! This is about the only thing that has not been a problem for me. Just think what this auto would be like if everything worked like the 4.6.

You are probably right, but I have no desire to drive agressive.

I will say this: Given that the next model upgrade is suppose to have such features as All-Wheel Drive, the BlueLink system, and a rear folding seat (for example), I'd say I am fine with the 2011 4.6 I bought (especially since it was so much cheaper than the 2012 model). I think given some of the changes coming in the next completely new model, I'd rather wait for that model (probably 2015) since I think that will be a much better car (with probably better engine choices) than the 2012, or 2013, for example.

Not for 1 second. My other vehicle used to be a 2005 BMW 545i (until we traded it in on a 2011 Genesis 3.8 coupe). This engine pulls just as hard and I don't think I'm going to have to worry about it spending several nights a month in the repair shop instead of in my garage. There are some things I like better about the Bimmer, but for the price, the 4.6 Genny wins every time. Now all I need are some good aftermarket tire to take this thing to the track and see if it is indeed faster than the BMW.

Not even a little bit! For the past twenty I have been driving an array of 4 and 6 cylinder cars. I had almost forgotten the sheer delight of barely touching the gas pedal and be going 50-60 MPH with little or no effort until I got my 2011 4.6. However, having the V8 was not high on the priority list when I decided on the 4.6 over the 3.8. It was having the all the extras wrapped up in one neat package at an affordable price. People are amazed when I tell them that what appear to be countless options is the way the car comes straight off the blocks. I've had a lot of cars in my life but this is one that stands out ahead of all the rest. I couldn't be happier.

Since the Genesis is quite likely the last car I'll ever own, and I need it to last through retirement, brief as that may turn out to be, I am maintaining it obsessively and driving it as gently as possible. That's one difference between being 30-ish and being 70-ish (but believe it or not, I was once 30-ish myself and owned some zippy cars, one of which was a Pontiac GTO purchased new in 1965).

No regrets. In fact the extra power just kept me out of an accident. It was one of those times when no time to brake but instead hit the gas and avoid the crash.

My wife and I bought a 2011 4.6 because we both liked the way it drove and rode better than the 3.8. We also liked the few extra things you get with the 4.6.

The other day I was driving on a 17 mile streach of 2 lane highway which has very few places to pass another car. At one point I had 2 cars right in front of me going about 52 MPH. We came to one of the places where it is possible to pass and luckily nothing was coming too close from the other direction. I didn't floor the Genesis, but "I gave it some gas". When I quickly reached the front of the lead car I glanced down at the speedometer and was going 100!! Wow -- I just don't think I would have had the same feeling of power from a 3.8.

P.S. - I am 69 years old and that still felt good!

NO!! I love it. I wanted to buy a Lexus GS. Went to the Cleveland car show with my 12-year-old son and realized that the GS was too small for me. My last two cars were 96 Avalon and 06 Avalon. So I decided that I had to get the LS460. Son kept telling me to look at the Genny. I kept saying "It's a Hyundai". Went back up near Cleveland to drive a used LS 460 (would not spend the cash on a new one), and there was a Hyundai Dealer nearby. To appease my son we went and looked at the Genny's. I drove the 3.8 and thought...wow this is a pretty nice car, but I want more or I would just buy another Avalon. Then on a whim I drove the 4.6. I loved that it came with everything standard. Took it out onto I271 and got on it. I just started giggling with joy and my wife said that I had to get the car. So, I did. I have had it since March and have no regrets. Love it every moment that I am in it. I put a K&N filter in it, replaced the H on the trunk with the wings and added some plasma glows to the headlights. The V8 still makes me giggle every day.

Not to mention adding Blue Link and AWD to the mix as well.. :D

God no! The MPG is only suppose to be 1 MPG less. Well worth it. I also preferred having the ZF tranny as well. The chrome trim on the bottom of the doors is sharp and only comes on the 4.6 as well.

it would have been perfect if it weren't for this occasional, disquieting failure of the audio system. it usually magically worked again after turning the engine off for a while as if something is rebooting. Hope this is not symptomatic of pending disaster with the electronic system.
other than that, love my car. bluetooth implementation could be better, but I can live with it for the price. No other significan nitpicks. All cars, including BMW, Lexus, Jaguar etc have their imperfections. The car turns head because it looks good (I don't care if Hyundai copied the heck out of Lexus and Mercedes).
I predict my 2011 v8 will have excellent resale value because like Lexus, the price for future Hyundai luxury models will steadily rise.
No regrets.
