  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The latest possible update for this car was apparently 2018, and can only be done thru the DVD player. Anybody do this and still have the DVD set?

For the 2012 3.8? Tech or not?

Correct me if I am wrong but this is not really an option as it requires the dealer and can mess up the car and what not along with needing it to be trickle charge connected etc...

Let me know what you find if I need to be corrected and if the DVD option works etc.

My info is from a few years ago but… A code is required from dealer, if you can get it. Process is tedious, but not difficult.
Start at:

For TECH TRIM cars, this is a 4-1/2 hour job with the car running while connected to Hyumdai GDS and DVDs loaded one at a time into the player (very slow process). You'll want a full tank of gas before you start as you'll use a lot of it.

Yes HMA requires the car to be running or you risk bricking the head unit if the update fails due to power outage. You WILL brick the head unit if you screw this up. HMA doesn't reimburse dealers when they screw it up, dealers eat the R&R for failing to follow directions. So yeah that's why dealers charge $500 (or did years ago before we all just said F-it and use Waze et. al. on our phones).

I just connected to a charger and didn’t run the engine.

That's exactly what I plan to do, and it is the Tech model. And yes, it looks tedious thru the DVD playing. I've also been in IT for 45 years, so I think I can manage this, probably better than the kid at the dealership. From what I've been able to find, I *can't* directly order the DVDs. Only the dealer can order them, with a dealer code. Once you have them, is there any additional codes required to install? So GenSedan12, how did you get hold of the DVDs?

I ordered the dvd’s from the dealer-parts dept. Service gave me the install code after I promised that I’d own it if it goes south. No idea what’s available today or if you can get the codes. I’ve done IT for 30+ years myself (Bernoulli drives and CPM) so you should be fine. Just follow the steps. I’m SURE you’re more qualified than anyone a dealer would assign to it.

Was the install code specific to the vehicle, or the dealership? I wonder if it would work to burn a copy of the set. From what I could gather, the set was dated 2018. Not exactly current, but more up-to-date than what's on the 2012.

I think the code is VIN specific, so even with the discs, you need your own code. You can call mapnsoft maybe…

I'm curious what the dealer-part dept charged you for the privilege of acquiring the DVDs?

I bought the DVD set last year. Little over $100 CAD IIRC. Part 1 firmware upgrade was lengthy but painless. Part 2 Map upgrade requires the dealer code which I have been unable to convince any local dealer to give me.

Where did you buy the set? Also curious what the firmware did for you? Required to do the Map upgrade?

It also is sounding like, from what I read, the code is a Dealer code, not a Vin code. So I'm expecting it would work on my vehicle, if I had the DVDs.
