  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anybody here do any CAN bus hacking on their Genesis?

Hi friends... bit of a geek here. I like to make electronic gadgets and I've been interested in making a device to display some of my G70's engine-related data that's not normally visible to the driver. I've made some progress and am able to pull data from the car, but I've reached the point where it would be helpful to interact with people who do similar hacking. In particular I'm interested in many of the Genesis-specific PIDs that aren't well documented in the wider CAN documentation.

[For the curious, CAN - Controller Area Network - is one of the protocols spoken by all modern cars and is accessible through the OBD - On-Board Diagnostic - port under your dashboard. It's the same protocol used by the many OBD devices you can buy to query and reset DTCs - Diagnostic Trouble Codes. There's a ton of interesting data flying around the car's networks and I'd like to tap into some of it.]

I think there are already apps for that, which work in conjunction with an OBD2 dongle. Are you talking about that? Or adding to the menu certain functions, like tranny temperature? I'd LOVE to have that function in a menu somewhere. If you're talking about THAT instead, that'd be more interesting to me:cool:.
