Well, I just wanted to update the thread. When I test-drove the G, I didn't have high expectations, since I knew it was an old platform, and not up to par with the Germans... but I wasn't looking for that anyway. What was really disappointing to me was the exhaust noise, since all V6s sound like crap with a loud exhaust, and I didn't want that. But the most disappointing aspect was not being able to turn it off, since Hyundai didn't bother to even include exhaust settings in the custom mode. Car drives like crap in normal mode (like most others), so both my wife and myself always drive in sport mode, where the exhaust sounds like a goat in distress. Heck, it even droned some in normal mode. I don't mind loud exhausts, as long as I can turn the valves off, since that gets old quick on a trip.
Another let down was the car wallowed on a couple of curves, while the shocks were excessively stiff, even in normal mode, so not 'balanced'. Shock valving should have been milder for that kind of car IMO. I also expected more grunt from the 6 at moderate throttle, actually feeling more anemic than the 4 to both my wife and myself. So when I heard an awful engine noise when pulling into the garage from the dealer, that was the 'gift' I needed to be able to get rid of it. And having bought 8 new cars from them, they accepted it back without a fight, so that was greatly appreciated. And that's why I'm doing my best to try to buy the replacement car from them too.
At any rate, to finish in a better note, we're going to go with a G70 2.0T SP. The 2 deal-breaker conditions from my wife are ventilated seats, and not longer than her ex-Tesla M3 LR, which measured 185". Not many alternatives, especially with BMW and MB out of consideration (never again). The Lexus IS300 is just awful now, dating back to 2014. Geez. Fortunately, the G70 2.0T RWD Prestige, which was voted the best value of the G70 line, and with the best suspension tuning (reviewers also said the 3.3 was excessively stiff), added ventilated seats for 2023, so I put a deposit on a white/gray one coming in late July. And it does NOT have a noisy exhaust, fortunately (I-4s don't sound nice either). I hated giving up HUD, Napa leather, suede-like headliner, and 360 view, but my wife can live without those, so hope she likes it when it finally gets here, because that's the end of the line. Ha ha. Otherwise, she'd have to give up ventilated seats, or shorter than 185". But I'm almost sure both of us will like how it drives, since it's lighter, softer (but still firm), and less nose heavy, but we'll see.
