  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does Hyundai mind K&N Filters?

My previous experiences with oiled air filters will keep me from ever installing one again.

My fault for over-oiling (slightly). The MAF in my Denali got oil fouled, and the transmission started "slipping". It acted just like the transmission was losing overdrive. One shop even quoted me for a new transmission before I stumbled across the true problem. One can of electrical cleaner and a fresh WIX filter, and it was back to normal.

There is one other possible advantage to a K&N filter. It may allow more intake engine noise to penetrate the cabin-------------thus adding hp to your butt dyno.

As I said, the only issue with these filters is if you clean them wrong, which destroys their filtering capability, or as you can see from your own experience, over oiling. Even that's not an issue for anything that uses MAP instead of MAF. The pressure sensors do not foul no matter how much oil you use.

My car is no louder than it was. They really don't change the sound much unless you go with a CAI, and then, it's not the filter itself that's the noise maker. They were recommended and included in the Renntech upgrades to my E55, and just the motor in that car is worth more than a brand new R-Spec.
