  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the 2012 have Passive or Active Eco Mode?

Can anyone confirm that the Eco mode in the 12 Genesis is Active? I confirmed on the Hyundai website that the new Elantra, Accent, Tuscon, and Sonata are all active, but nothing about the Genesis or in my owners manual. I thought is was simply a passive indicator light to show conservative gas pedal useage, however, unless my foot and mind are playing a trick on me, I perceive less lag and slightly more pick up with it off.

i'll look for the article i read, but iirc it was just a light to let you know you were driving economically lol i know GM uses their eco mode to lock the converter up at like 1500 rpm and it upshifts quicker, downshifts slower.

I think tonygxp is right - when I drive "sensibly" the light is on but when I kick it a bit, it goes off until the revs come down.

I think it's more feedback for the driver of what should be done rather than a mechanical/electrical limit, otherwise there'd be an on/off switch on a car like this (especially the 5.0).

But my 2012 3.8 with tech/prem package does have an on or off option - but I don't understand what it does - this is in addition to the green eco indicator light. Anyone know what the eco mode on/off does? does it change shift points?

Yeah, it can be shut off in my R-spec too. Maybe it just shuts off the light?

I've been meaning to look into this myself. Anyone have the definitive answer?

My father has a v6 honda pilot, when he drives on the highway at reasonable speeds or in the city without punching it, a light comes on "eco" which means it's shut off 2 cylinders and uses only 4 for better mpg....I'm assuming it's the same idea I just doubt it turns into a v6 lol just means your driving mpg friendly......IMO oh and it can also go to only 3 cylinders if need be kinda crazy If u ask me lol

It's in the owners manual -

The ECO indicator (green) will turn on
when you are driving fuel efficiently in
the ECO Driving ON mode.
If you don't want the indicator displayed,
you can turn the ECO Driving
ON mode to OFF mode by pressing the
DISP button (or the RESET button).

It seems that in a 2012 v6 'strip-o' sedan there isn't Eco Mode option at all. So it must be part of either the Tech or Premium package.

...just another data point...

It's a passive system in the 2012 3.8
