  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the HMA Platinum Warranty require service at the dealer?

Just bought a Genesis and the HMA Platinum extended warranty, 10 yrs & 100k. We have a local import shop here that is considerably cheaper for service than the Hyundai dealer, especially for the inspections that require a visual check of a whole bunch of components.

I would like to use that Import shop for maintenance and service; however, does the HMA warranty require that service be performed by a Hyundai dealer?

For those who have issued a claim against this warranty, how strict is Hyundai in ensuring that the complete services are done before paying a claim? (i.e. if I just get the oil changed at 15k miles and 'skip' the visual inspection stuff or do it myself, would I then be subject to Hyundai saying that improper maintenance was performed?)

Go right to the Horses mouth, Hyundai HPP can be reached at 1-866-367-9040.

I was told at the time of platinum warranty purchase that all warranty repairs had to be performed by a Hyundai dealer, but I could get the oil changes etc. done wherever I want, just save all receipts. I'm leaning towards having my dealer do it all just to be on the safe side...

Don't you have any papers associated with the warranty you purchased? I would read the fine print.

On the regular Hyundai manufacturer's warranty, routine maintenance can be performed by anyone, so long as you have proof that it was performed. This is a requirement in the USA for manufacturer warranties per the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). Not sure if the extended warranty has the same consumer protection as the regular manufacturer's warranty, nor do I know what the extended warranty terms and conditions state.

With my former Genesis I found that the dealer I purchased it from was cheaper than a nearby shop for oil changes but I used the nearby place a couple of times because it was closer and a shorter wait time.

With the new Equus the dealer will come pick the car up and give me a loaner for all maintenance including oil changes and all is free for five years including oil changes.
