  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I wanted to see if anyone else who owns a genesis 2015 have a MAC address when they click on 'wifi' on their dashboard/head unit. I've been dealing with some unwanted activity on my iPhone after connecting to public wifi few months back and am concerned a hacker bug/malware is intruding the wifi on my car now.

Someone told me I need to restore the computer software to factory setting but even corporate and my local dealership have no idea how to do this.

Is there a way to change my car wifi password? I'm not really familiar with this type of stuff. Any help is appreciated.

Your car has Wi-Fi? Your car has the ability to connect to Wi-Fi to do some upgrades but is not normally connected. You have to initiate the connection. The car has no password.

From the way someone else described it on another (old) thread, one has to have direct wired access to the car to make any changes to the onboard software and only low level stuff at that. Hyundai installed a firewall in the system to negate any "over the air" tampering... The poster remarked that it looked pretty robust & highly selective.

Thank you guys for helping me. And You just jogged a memory. A few months back, a friend plugged in an OBD-II scanner he bought online into my car with probably a virus infected laptop (there was no antivirus software on it) and that's probably when this mess all started.

What I want to find out is if anyone with the same 2015 genesis sedan has a mac address on their screen. It seems kinda weird to me.

Your Genesis always has a MAC address. It has several dozen, actually, most of which you'll never find. You cannot remove or alter them.

Also, OBD didn't infect your car. It cannot. Same for the onboard Wifi, it doesn't have the ability to add anything to your car since the system is only set to initiate a connection to the outside you yourself tell it "I want to download *that*" with a finger and an obvious display. Not that you can actually download anything since Hyundai has basically disabled it all.

thanks for the info. I have another question about the wifi feature. When I turn it on, it lists all the secure networks around me and it has the one network I accidentally connected to a while back: cox public wifi 'saved'. Is it possible to remove/forget these networks at all?

That sounds like a phone thing... On an iPhone, you can select it and you'll get a prompt for "forget this network" or similar - then it'll never try to connect to it again.
