In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My 2013 Hyundai Genesis RPEC. Cannot figure it out, and the manual says ziltch.

How does one go about simply turning off the smart cruise control?

Cannot find the info in the manual. All it talks about is how to engage it, but nothing on how to disengage. I push the distance button and it shows 1,2, 3 bars, push it again, and does not go off. What am I missing here? I want to keep the cruise control on, but smart cruise control off. Probably something dumb but yet to figure it out. Please help, and be gentle please.

Thank you

Re: Don't Shoot Me

The cruise is only smart cruise as in Mercedes cars. You cannot turn off the "smart" part of the smart cruise control.

Re: Don't Shoot Me

Thanx. Darnit! I hate when the car slows down as you approach another vehicle in front. I don't like that braking feeling as you creep up onto a slower car. I would just like to pull out to pass without having the car slow down.

The normal response would be to pull out earlier, but what if I don't wanna? lol

Oh well

Why not just accelerate to pass the car in front of you and let Smart Cruise resume the desired speed?

Re: Don't Shoot Me

Its great when driving on a country road with various speed limits and such. Crusin on the 4 lane highways, and approaching a large truck, sometimes you want to get closer to pass, and not have to pull into the adjacent lane a ways back. Maybe keepin in the right lane will help minimize the risk of being ticketed. I only noticed the too smart cruise control this day as I usually leave it on, even tho it doesn't shut off. Just felt like cruising w/o any interruption of speed. Guess I hve to pull out sooner not to feel the sudden slow down

Re: Don't Shoot Me

Denny....turn that damn thing OFF. I bet it ain't smarter than you :D

Re: Don't Shoot Me

I am the same. Wish I could have just a normal cruise mode and dump the "smart" function sometimes. Totally agree!!!

You may be able to turn it off via the engineering menu. There are lots of configuration settings in it, but I haven't played around with them. I'll take a look tonight and see if anything hints at being a toggle for this feature.

Is there a known procedure for the engineering menu in the 2013 RSpec or Tech?

You got that right!!! I know when I have to slow down the car. Don't need some high fl-a-outin gizmo to do my thinking for me. Been driving without it for umpteen years, and don't necessarily need it now.

Like yesterday, driving on a four lane highway to work. Coming up to a transport truck. No traffic, and I am pacing myself to make a pass, and all of a sudden, the car sloooooooows down, then I have to pull out to pass to get my speed back to where it was. Am I not wasting gasoline with this gizmo?

Now, if this thing was really smart, it would let me cruise at 140KMPH and upon detecting the cops radar, would slow me down back to the 100kph speed limit.

NOW THATS SMART!!!!

Re: Don't Shoot Me

If there is a little traffic, I keep the SCC on the lowest setting. If there is more, I keep it off. If everyone is going the same sped, I'll use the steering wheel +/- buttons to adjust my speed.

It is hard when using this feature on a highway, say from LA to Las Vegas. Because there is a lot of lane changing where you don't really need to slow down - someone jumps out to pass a truck, but they are closer than the shortest setting of the SCC. Then it slows. Grrrr!!! I actually think it wears the brakes out for one and it makes others on the highway pissed off for two - because it slows down when it doesn't need to and the hole line of cars behind me have to brake.

I just don't use it most of the time. I find myself using cruise far less in this car than in any previous.

I have a 2014 (same as 2013) but don't know how to access the engineering menu.

It's on here somewhere. I'm at work right now and can't spend too much time searching, but it involves press a set of button on the DIS simultaneously and then entering a code on the phone screen to access the expanded menu. I did it a week or so ago and changed the boot up logo to "Genesis Prada" for no good reason.

Edit: here's the post I used for my 2012 Tech - http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=63864&postcount=3

Edit #2: Nvm, apparently the infotainment interface changed for the 2013 model. Sorry.

Yep, I've seen that. It doesn't work on the 2013 because we don't have an Disc/Aux button.

Yeah, I just saw that after I read through the posts. Sorry. I guess it's time for you to start mashing buttons in different combinations?

Sadly, noone has figured out how to get in the engineering menu of the 2013+ models if one even exists.

Like a lot of things, the smart CC takes a little getting use to. I like it now. The only real complaint I had was someone cutting in front of me and having the brakes come on. I've learned to just touch cancel for the CC when I see that happening (or about to happen). As soon as that car is moving at a slightly faster speed than I am, I hit resume.

No worries man!!

I was using this method as well - found it to be more effort than just driving along without a cruise control turned on. The SCC sucks in most cases out here in CA where the traffic is fairly heavy on I15 or i5. I see its usefulness in the Mid-West states, but they should have allowed the "smart" function to be turned off.

Cruise control was never meant to be used in fairly heavy traffic, regardless of sensors.

Entirely agree. I would like the option to turn it off. I believe the Gen 2 has this "feature".

Not sure where you live - but driving from SoCal to Vegas is fairly heavy traffic and yes, it is a good place to use cruise control. The issue is with the "Smart" cruise control which cannot make human decisions which allows for the use of cruise control.

The SCC is overly aggressive in braking action and not useful in situations where you are on a 4 lane (2 in one direction) highway and there are cars jumping in and out of the #1 lane for the purpose of passing - like when there are trucks along the way.
