Hi guys,

I just got off the phone with the dealer - he tells me the sunroof wind deflector came to him already installed on my R Spec...

I personally do not like the look of the deflector, and want it gone. Does anyone on here have an OEM one, and if so, can you tell me if it can be removed by the dealer before I pick it up?

How is it held in place? 3M tape? Screws? If so... will the body show evidence of its previous existence?

Thanks... :(

I don't have one, but I know it's stuck on with the 3M tape. My fear is if you have them remove it, they will damage the paint, as they don't want to spend a lot of time removing it.

You could do it yourself with a heatgun or hairdryer.....I'm surprised the dealer installed it, unless they're trying to add $ to the sale...

My 5.0 came with it and at first I didn't like it but it grew in me. The one thing I know for sure is that I was doing 85 with the sunroof open and it was very quiet. So it will probably stay on for now

No.. buying thru hyundai circle price - the options are included in the price - it wasn't a dealer thing.

I will have a chance to inspect the car before I sign anything... so if they damage the paint - I'm gonna see it, especially since I've asked them NOT to touch the exterior at all. Seems like it's 3M, and not screwed in?

Bad news besides the deflector... all their cars come with front license brackets. VERY upset about this.

Guess I gotta find something to plug the holes with...

Geez, and they put holes in the front bumper:( Mine came the same way, but now with my new bumper (due to accident) my body shop guy called and asked if I wanted the plate mount installed in the bumper. I said no:) Now it's beautiful.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Guess a trip to Lowe's or Home Depot is in my near future. I refuse to pay $33 bucks for the "official" bumper plugs.

OR!!!! I still have my custom Euro plate from my VW. Maybe that'll integrate better with the bumper.

I had a deflector come on a mazda and it was held on by special clamps and was very easy to remove. No tape or holes. So maybe yours will be easyto remove.

I got the deflector as well but it was uninstalled - they charged me $95 and I failed to notice it on the invoice. I'm trying to trade it for a roadside emergency kit. I don't recall tape or anything in with it so I'm guessing it is tape.

The dealership removed my front wings emblem and the GENESIS letters on the back and they came off fine.

I also got the front tag mount but it's bagged up in the trunk as well.

They tacked on the trunk liner and cargo net. The trunk liner is really nice but the net is a joke - it's practically useless.

NICE! I plan on keeping all the hardware also... what did you do with the license plate holes in the front? Or did you manage to get the plate BEFORE they drilled? I didn't get the choice... the car got to the dealer yesterday (I checked inventory through hyundai circle basically daily), and they keep saying the plates came like that off the boat. I have read that this is common in other Hyundai models. It doesn't make me feel any better :(

I forgot to mention that my dealer states they do NOT mount the front plates on the Genesis anymore due to many complaints. Sounds like the dealer does the mounting......at least mine I guess

I got it before they installed it - not sure it was even an option seeing we don't use front tags here. I think there are dimples where it goes but no holes.

It was off the car when I got to the dealership this morning. Basically, they put two pieces of what looks like really REALLY thick tape on both front corners of the sunroof (on the paint). Then, a clip held the deflector in place without it actually touching the paint. They left the tape when they removed the deflector, and I asked my detailer to remove it tonight when they begin prepping the car. Probably already done by now :)

They had the exact same car as mine inside the showroom. I turned that down SIGHT UNSEEN because I knew it had been on the showroom floor - now, I don't like to ASSume, but when someone tells me there's a model on the floor, I immediately think swirl marks, scratches from careless customers and their kids, and a dead battery (not to mention potential damage inside, or even missing pieces taken by "collectors"). Good thing I did, because it looked like someone had taken a brillo pad to the paint!!!

The reason I bring it up is, that car had the sunroof wind deflector. I really didn't care for it, but my 19 year old cousin liked the look. Regardless, it is now in my trunk, and it'll probably be a free prize on my brother's website at some point.

Thanks everyone for your help on this.

PS - I THINK I can live with the small(ish) front license plate... for now. Unfortunately, it has THREE holes across the top - which means two (2) sets of bumper plugs. At $25/pair, I don't see me making that mod any time soon (if at all).

Revive an old thread..........

Mine came with it already on the car. Had to be dealer installed. There was NO tape. So after almost 2 years, I decided I didn't want it anymore. Removed 2 screws/clamps and it came right off.

Now after 3 hours of using Optimum Compound II, followed by Optimum Polish II, and then carnuba, most of the marks are gone. The rest that is left is too deep into the paint. My teeeerie (that's theory for you non-Louisiana types) is that dirt/grit gets up under the rubber seal and it vibrates itself into the paint when running or washing.

So -- DON'T DO/USE IT........
