  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was leaving work yesterday and got to my car. i park in a super secure / high security clearance lot so i never lock it during the day. With that said, i opened the rear driver's side door and toss in my bags, and then i go to open the driver's door and it won't open. i hit the unlock button on the key fob (even though all doors are unlocked) and still nothing. so i hit the lock then unlock button and the door still won't open. i went around to the passenger side to see if the lock button is moving and sure enough it is, so i unlock the car and crawl over the center console and open the door from the inside and it works just fine. Rinse and repeat the same thing this morning. I know the only thing to do is take it to the dealership, but this has me so confused. I assumed i would have heard something break inside the door if one of the rods came off, and i dont hear any rattling. Just wanted to share / vent since this is a bit frustrating on a CPO that i've had for less than a month.

Rod may not have come off, but the plastic clip that secures the rod to the handle might have broken, so the handle can’t “grab” the rod to push and release the latch.

Could also be the rod connection on the latch has an issue, I had this problem with the latches in my 1939 ford. The inside rod was connected to a different catch on the latch, the outside handle was a direct feed square pin in hole and the inside was a rod to a pull level, the pull lever on the latch broke so I could get in from the outside but not out from the inside.

I have the same problem in my 2015 Genesis (driver door). Did you ever figure out what caused it?

Yep, actuator went out. Replaced under warranty. Took about 45 min.

I am having the same problem with my 2019 G80. Driver door won't open from the outside when unlocked. I can only open it from the inside through the passenger side. I will be taking the car to the dealer to investigate.

If the vehicle is no longer under warranty what does something like this cost?

did you ever get any information on getting the actuator? cost? installation?

mine was covered under warranty, and i unfortunately did find this to be a big enough of a repair to keep the paperwork. my apologies :( since this incident i have kept all repairs and maintenance paperwork in the glovebox, but this one was not in there.

I'm having this issue with my 2017 Genesis G80. This problem exactly. I do have extended warranty. I'm hoping the actuator isn't too expensive to replace.

I have the driver door lock problem, took it to the dealer. Dealer in Cumming stated that they can't duplicate the problem and warranty company refused to repair it. I bought the part from an internet seller for $130. The window trim and the door panel need to be removed to access the latch.
I haven't done it yet.

I never understand how this happens. Did you stand there while the dealer tried it? Why didn’t the warranty refuse it. What brand of warranty was it?

please help others avoid these situations.

I did not see the technician. The Mastertech extended warranty was from the car dealer I bought the car from.
My driver's seat back panel fell off, and the warranty agent told me that this warranty doesn't cover TRIM. So now the back panel of the drivers seat is trim?
I can only assume that this warranty company will refuse to pay for anything.
