  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Guys,
Do you know how I can adjust the doors of my 2G Genny to close softer.
I have the power/soft close, but to fully close the door at first time(without the help of the power close) I need to shut it with some hand force. On the Optima, the doors were closing like fridges doors - very easy and without force.

Also I think that driver's door didn't close completely, so I want to try adjusting.

Nature of the beast. This is one area which they need to improve as it does take some force to close them properly. The Gen 1 was not so bad however they did not learn their lesson very well and made it slightly worse on the Gen2. Helloooooooooooo Hyundai, you listening?

I don't like to blast the doors to close them.
the power close is doing his job, but on some different models there is a very soft way to close the doors...

Does someone knows how the doors can be adjusted?

Simple fix............. just take it to the dealer why take the chance of screwing it up :)

Are you saying that you need to slam them to get the soft close feature to engage? Otherwise, why wouldn't you just let the soft close do it's job? Sort of defeats the purpose if you want to override it?

the "soft close" is doing its job, but if you want to completely close the door from one time you need a bit to blast the shut on it.

Also as I mention this behavior leads to a some sounds from the door's ceiling when the car is driven.

Mine took a little getting used to when closing the driver's door from inside the car. However, I don't find they take excessive force to close and after the first few days of ownership have not had any issues.

I chalked up the initial experience to the car being more tightly sealed than my previous cars (and it definitely is) - but, based on comments, maybe there is some variability car to car?

Maybe I am missing something, but I thought that the USA Genesis does not have power/soft close doors as mentioned by the OP. Not sure about the Canadian Genesis (but sounds like the V8 Ultimate does in Canada).

Sounds like the soft close is not fully pulling the door shut, then. Once it grabs it, then it should seat the door in a fully closed and sealed position and latch it. Therefore, how hard you push it should have no impact as your push is not what is really closing the door... or does the Genesis soft close work differently?

Yes - you are missing something: I'm not talking about soft close as, you are correct - doesn't exist in NA. I'm just taking about closing the doors in general.

Op has a European Geneis which does have soft close doors.

mine is European with soft/power close of all doors.

@Nikgen: it is always particular car to car issue with door closing.
On my last Optima, the doors were closed very softly like a fridge, but on the cars I saw in the dealership or on the road (some friends) - their doors were closed more harder.

On the Genesis Im sure it is the same, some cars are aligned more good than others. this is all production stuff. Maybe soon I will go to dealership to align better my doors. As I said I have little sounds coming from the door's or window's ceiling... Im a driver who wants to hear everything and the words - "Listen to your music louder", does not work for me
I want around my car everything to be like a charm.

Do not understand why you would not let the soft close door work as intended? I suspect they are not meant to be slammed. Be glad you have them.

Am I to understand that I've been closing my own doors like a bum, like a dog, like a mutt, like a mongrel, like an animal! God forbid anybody should tell me oh no, that's too much trouble to pick up a phone and press a few buttons. Ahh... what's the point!?"
