  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,
I have purchased a G70 (hasn't arrived yet) and during my test drive I didn't really pay attention to the dial. Does this dial have the ability to control the head unit like the dial does in the G80? I know its for drive mode but wondered if there was a possibility to change the function of the dial in the settings.

Thanks

No, the dial is for switching drive mode only and is not configurable. The only way to control the head unit is via the touchscreen and the shortcut buttons in the center console.

Thanks for the info! I have been driving a G80 and I really like this feature of using the dial for the head unit.

The one thing I really enjoy about the G80 vs the G70 is the control knob as it is easier to use while driving. Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, you cannot reconfigure the purpose of the knob (it also doesn't rotate continuously; the G70's knob resets to centre position after you turn it). However, it is ultimately a minor thing as the G70 is far more driver-focused so I am willing to sacrifice that to have a much better driving car. :)

I really wish they did a proper interface like Audi’s MMI, etc. you can truly keep your eyes on the road.

With having to touch the screen is so distracting.

Even with navigation...if you want to pan or zoom...awful.

Thanks GenesisYEG and Beefer. If I didn't drive the G80 I wouldn't know any different so it kinda sucks the G70 doesn't have it but its not the end of the world. The G70 is more fun to drive than the G80 anyway and that's what really matters. Maybe the interface will be upgraded in the future?
Thanks

Unlikely we'll see any major UI change for several years, if at all this generation.

I find the UI easy to use but it looks too much like another brand out there. ;) If the fonts could change and if the icons could be larger and more tile-like with smaller gaps between the icons then that would go a long way in keeping the UI more modern and more "luxurious".

I wonder how much I'll miss it. We're leaning to getting a G70 to replace our A3. Oddly enough, the A4 is the other option that we're looking it... AND, in the 2020, Audi has went to touch screen in the A4! I was surprised since I thought the German's were convinced that touch screens were a safety issue. Guess times change.
