  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I absolutely love my 2016 Genesis 3.8 Sedan but there is one issue; the seat is hands down the most uncomfortable seat of any car or truck I have ever owned.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
It isn't the back it's the seat bottom, the sides come up sharply and are hard enough that they cause me pain, I have never experienced this before. I didn't notice it until I had the car for a few months. I should mention that I drive about 600 miles per week (30,000 per year) I am 6'1" tall and weigh just under 200 lbs.
I bought a pad which helps a little but it is still not comfortable to drive, and really stinks that I had to buy a pad for a brand new luxury car.
Thanks

Do you have the adjustable side bolsters? There is a rotating switch around the lumbar 4 way pad. Adjust them outward...

If you think the Genny's seat is bad, you should sit in a 2013 Toyota Avalon. It was ok for about 30 minutes then became totally unbearable after about 2 hours. It was so bad that I traded it in on my '15 Genny after only one year and less than 10K miles. The Genny is more firm than I would like but no problem on road trips.

maybe it's you. the dh seats are absolutely great.

I don't have adjustable side bolsters but it's the seat bottom that is uncomfortable not the back. If everyone else loves their seat than I guess it is me, like Genentec said, bummer!
Thanks

It might be you, I find this seat to be at least tied with or better than my Lexus GS and LS, and those two were the most comfortable cars I have ever been in. Maybe mess with the seat bottom angle and see if it improves?

To OP - Why did you purchase a car with a driver seat that you do not like?

OP - which trim package do you have? The tech and higher packages have a different seat than lower trim levels.

I'm starting to feel the same way. I just started driving further to work (roughly 45mins each way opposed to the 10-15mins previous) and I've noticed the seat bottom has been uncomfortable on my '16 Ultimate.

For shorter trips I never noticed, it seemed fine. I really need to take the time to tweak the seat and see if it helps anything. I previously had a '14 Acura RLX which I liked the seat on but I think my '11 TL was the most comfortable for extended trips.

I have a long trip (800ish miles each way) coming up next week and I'm thinking of taking the Genesis but I'm pretty torn at this point

For me its the opposite. Some of the most comfortable I have ever had!

I’ve driven to Florida twice with the first day being a 15 hour drive and assure you it wouldn’t be possible without the support of a well engineered seat. I’m 6 ft 250 lbs and of easy chair age so I appreciate the excellent seats of my Genesis which by the way was one of the determining factors in choosing the car.

Bring me down a proper corned-beef sandwich, with stadium mustard, next time you're down this way!! :D

I think it depends on your body type, my wife is smaller than me so the seats are very comfortable for her. The flat part of the seat bottom is 1 foot wide, then it rises sharply. Unfortunately for me my butt is wider than 1 foot so the edges of the seat cause discomfort as they push up against my bottom, significant discomfort. This was not noticeable until I drove the car extensively for 2 months. I have a 2016 AWD Base model, maybe the seats are different in the higher models.

with the lumbal support movement and side bolsters movement + the 2 sides movement of the headrest, I think this is a very comfortable seating. Many of my friends who drove an Audi or BMW are very surprised by the comfort of the seats in the Genesis :)

In olden times, seats were more like arm chairs and over sprung, so you sink into the seat and the seat takes your shape. These modern seats are very firm but give plenty of adjustments to mould each element of the seat to your shape. I did take a few weeks of continuous adjustments until I got it right. At times, I was getting out with an aching back. There must be a way of adjusting each element in the correct order. Be nice to know what that is. I found there was a lot of trial and error.
However, having got it right, I just get into the car and drive and forget about seat adjustment now and find it comfortable.

Same thing for me. Not sure how much the seat took to me or I took to the seat, but I now find it very comfortable.

Also - The Base and Signature seats are different than the Tech and Ultimate.
I have a Signature, and I have no major complaints, but it would have been nice to have some of the additional adjustments, and the front cushion extension.

I have a 2013 Genny & have driven to Fla from NY several times, extremely comfortable seats.

I'm interested to hear how you make out on your upcoming trip. At first the seats felt great to me but then they started to get very uncomfortable.
