  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have lately noticed a very distracting reflection of the air vent housing in my driver's side rear view mirror. It is there in most lighting situations but disappears if I open the window.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

+1

Usually only noticed it when exiting the garage into full sun. Perfect reflection of the air vent. I am lucky in that I re-enabled the mirror tilt-down for Reverse, so it is gone.

But it was really distracting. Only reflection problem I have had with the car, which is better than a lot of cars I have owned.

No problem with it with normal driving. All I could suggest is playing with the seat height/tilt in combo with mirrors. (This is the only car I have ever owned - and that is a lot of cars - where I have found two or three really good seat/steering/mirror position alternatives.)

Not sure where this vent is on the Sedan, but if your mirrors are properly set, it should be impossible to see any part of your own car without moving your body/head. Sounds like your mirrors are useless if they're that close in!

I sometimes get the reflection of the air vent housing in the left side of the windshield at eye level. This is very distracting sometimes. I have not noticed the mirror issue yet.

Yes, I have the same problem. It is a reflection of the aluminum trim around the A/C vent to the left of the steering wheel. It is a reflection on the glass of the driver's side door that lines up exactly in the driver's side rear view mirror.
I wonder if the tinted glass I had installed makes it more noticeable.

I wish I hadn't read this post, and the reflection has nothing to do with tinting.
After I read this, I drove my car to the tint shop and could see the reflection in the mirror all the time. I never noticed it before! Nuts!!
And my mirrors are set properly!

Yes, I have the same issue... there is a strong reflection in the window/mirror.

P.S. Hello fellow Ottawa person. :)

Wrong. The mirrors are not "close in" and I can't see any part of the car from my normal driving position and seeing the car is not the problem. The problem seems to be a reflection off the window onto the mirror. As stated in my post, rolling the window down makes the reflection go away.

Mine has the factory tint.

I have never noticed this until you pointed it out. It is there on both side mirrors. I had to look for it after reading your post. After a nights sleep I have forgot about it again. Thank goodness :D

I also never noticed it until it was pointed out. If I don't remember to look for it, I don't see it, but if I do remember I do see it.

I took my Genny in to have the cowl replaced today and discussed the matter with my service adviser. I had him sit in the car in sunlight and he immediately saw the problem and the cause. The car has aftermarket tinted windows applied by the dealer from whom they got my car (they did not have the one I wanted in stock so they traded with a dealer in an adjacent city). We then drove a new Genny which confirmed there's no problem with the stock tint. The good news is that I got a free tint but the bad news is the reflection; guess I will get used to it.

That's strange, as I noticed it on my way to get the tinting done AND on the way home after it was done. In my case, the tinting made no difference.

Yes, I notice it in my 2015 3.8 and I noticed it in my 2012 as well. Drove me nuts, at first, but I got used to it!

Now that I know the cause, I hope to get used to it and ignore it in the future. At least it's nothing like the constant nagging issues on my '13 Avalon.

What reflection :D

First few days with the car and I have noticed a big difference with reflection compared to my previous car (BMW). The HUD housing is reflected in the windshield and the rear deck reflects on the back window. I probably just need to get used to this. :-)
