  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a vibration that occurs almost every time I come to a stop and then accelerate. It's most obvious when driving stop sign to stop sign. When I give it the gas, I feel a rumble directly under the center console as the car gets up to speed. It's short and is gone once I pass through 10-15 mph. It's not killing me, but it is a little embassing when others are in the car.

I've read the threads about "torque shudder" and this seems a little different because it only occurs when I start moving. Once I'm up to speed it's generally smooth sailing regardless of upshifts/downshifts by the transmission. As mentioned above, it's not just a noise; it's a tactile vibration right under the center of the cabin.

Anyone else experience a similar issue?

Haven't had this experience, but, I think there is a TSB on this. Let me search around my files and see if I can find one for this.

sounds like a busted or loose transmission mount/crossmember? only while you're accelerating from a stop?

Correct. It only occurs when accelerating from a full or rolling stop. It's pretty consistent too. Would be really easy for me to demonstrate to a service tech.

sounds like a busted/loose mount somewhere in the drivetrain, maybe engine, trans, rear.. maybe even a u joint?

I had this issue when I bought my vehicle. There is another thread about this subject in this forum. For me it was an easy fix, the dealer added a washer to the drive shaft assembly. Took a while to find it .......

There is a TSB for the washer, but it was not all that easy to install. I believe the entire drive shaft has to be removed and put back together.

According to the TSB, you shouldn't have to drop the half shaft. I have the same problem. I only experience the shutter between the speeds of 20-35 MPH during acceleration and deceleration. And, even though it happens everyday no matter the time, my inept dealer can't seem to duplicated the problem so they can't fix it.

I have a 2010 4.6 and have the exact same problems with vibration between15 to 20 mph during acceleration and vibration between 35 and 45 mph at deceleration. Very frustrating and embarrassing. Had it in once and was told the transmission needed re-programmed. What a joke that was. Has anyone else experienced this and what was the fix?

Thanks.

Read my lips. There is a TSB for this. Demand that your dealer look it up.

I have the exact same issue. Glad to hear about the TSB, have to take it in next week for repair.

Same problem here, just found the TSB

Thanks for posting the TSB, does anyone know if this also applies to 2011?

FYI - Took mine in and the dealer ended up replacing the entire driveshaft on my 2011.

For what it's worth, I have had the same problem for a number of months with my 2010 4.6. First they did a road force balance (although I told them it would not resolve the problem), then they spent two hours installing the TSB and it made the problem worse than before, and they admit that. Now I am told they are contacting the factory for direction, but think it might be the driveshaft. The way the car behaves, is sure sound more like a lose/broken mount, but they seem to refuse to even consider that possibility. In any event, I continue to drive a car that sounds and feels unsafe while they discuss it with Hyundai. I am amazed that they think it is fine to send the car out when the problem is worse than when it arrived. Obviously, my next Genesis will come from another dealer.

You can take your current Genesis to a different dealer for warranty repairs.

Update from early November. Dealer installed the TSB and the results were worse than before. After the installation the Service Writer agreed it did not help and said that according to Hyundai a new propeller shaft would resolve the problem. Just yesterday, after prodding them a few times, the part was installed and it seems to have fixed the problem. According to them it was a center bearing that was causing the noise.
In response to Mark 888, I was under the impression that once a service dept. had taken responsibility it had to say with them until resolution. Regardless, if this visit didn't result in a fix I was planning on moving on. A real annoying problem and I am very disappointed with Hyundai service. Six months to fix a bearing is totally unacceptable.

Hi, I'm the OP on this thread and finally had the TSB applied last week. Like others who have responded, the "fix" made the issue more pronounced. So they ordered a new driveshaft. Hopefully that will solve the problem. It really does make me wonder how Hyundai can publish a TSB that makes the problem worse.

Happy to report that the problem is now solved.
