  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driving.ca First Drive 2019 Genesis G70

I tried replicating this in my car going for lunch today and it worked as it is supposed to. Held the gear for maybe a couple of seconds at most after flooring it and then fully taking my foot off the gas. About the same as my old BMW did in sport mode or my Grand Cherokee does in sport mode.

Some cars, when in sport mode, hold a lower gear to provide engine braking when cornering. So, if you give it high throttle input, it'll downshift but then stay in that gear even as you back off the throttle. This is kind of analogous to what a human would do with a manual transmission -- lay into the throttle to rev match, then perhaps let the revs drop down somewhat while going through a turn but holding the lower gear to retain better control. Is that what's going on (albeit clumsily) here?

This might not change much but do you mind checking again by not taking the foot off gas completely and just ease off and see how long it would take to up shift? The only reason I ask is because it seems that is what the reviewer did and maybe exactly replicating it is the best way to put this to rest?

DJ/YEG Genesis, along with our sales staff, are at a major G70 summit event right now with all the top people at Genesis Canada. They're getting serious track time with the G70, so I would be very confident with the answers he's providing here.

Get some 0-60 mph or 0-100 km/h times!!!

:)

So I played with this a ton yesterday on my way home from work (44km drive). And no matter how much or little I pull my foot off the gas it never holds the gear for longer than a second or so. To be honest, after trying to replicate what the article mentioned at least 20 times, I think I would say that if anything the transmission up shifts too soon sometimes. I have this one 270 degree freeway merge I took and I tried 3 times in the turn to floor it and then ease off the gas and it upshifted too soon where in that hard turn I would have liked a lower gear to help with exit speed. On the bright side in sport it is really quick to downshift again when you need it.

After I got home I took the my other vehicle out (2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee) and put it in sport and tried the same thing and I actually think it held lower gears longer.

Anyway, I definitely think the guy testing the car either accidentally put it in manual or had a freak glitch in the test car. I don't think I would worry about this at all. Although I do think he should edit his review to mention that the car was not operating as expected and not make it sound like that is just how they all work.

@Edmguy thanks for the thorough analysis and I agree that the review needs to be altered unless he tested the car really early and Genesis managed to fix it before deliveries. However this seems highly unlikely.

Just finished going around the track. This car is incredibly balanced! It is pouring rain but I managed to go really quickly around corners and the AWD/LSD helped keep the car sorted even in the wet. I will post more impressions and photos later on but now it is time to party. 😊

Also, this car didn't exhibit the issue Mr. Booth experienced in his review.

^ cool photo. neat perk to the job there. but seeing those bright 10-spokes on the red car confirms my preference for those rims instead of the dark 5-spokes on the 6MT Sport that i've a deposit for.

... but you'd also be spending much more time keeping those those bright 10 spokes clean versus the dark 5 spokes!

I wasn't sure on the dark 5-spoke rims myself initially. Having seen them in person now, they've grown on me over the past few weeks. Granted, I've always been a sucker for gunmetal/charcoal rim finishes.

A little closer look at the 5 spoke

I would like to know if the 10 spoke wheels can be purchased seperatly.... maybe as a winter rim???

^ that would be good to know. i'm sure as an OE part they are available through the network. what would collision repair do for sourcing?

no question the dark wheels would not show brake dust as much which is a plus, but those 10-spokes don't look too tight for cleaning. i really need to see everything in person - still waiting for the GXM to contact me for a test drive.

the frustrating part is that when i placed the pre-order deposit, the Genesis website showed the 10-spoke wheels on the configurator so that set up my expectation - along with seeing the 10-spokes on the Sport model on display at the auto show here in Vancity. wheels are just wheels and can easily be changed if needed, i do realize, and i've done so on past cars of mine.

That is a pretty sucky part of Genesis reps not being salesman but only reps and they have their hands tied and cant do anything which kinda sucks.

There are actually two categories of staff at Genesis locations - GXMs (salespeople) and GXCs (concierges/product specialists). GXMs can legally get into numbers, GXCs can't (unless they are also OMVIC certified).

And yes, the pricing/options are set with Genesis. However, a lot of our customer base seem to prefer having a bit less choice/negotiating power with tons of standard content, over paying for the drastically overpriced option packages that our competition offer ;)
