  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Drove the Genesis R-Spec in the snow this morning. It actually handled better than I thought it would. I actually passed some other cars on the way in to work. Ended up being at work by myself while I waited for others to show up. Everyone asked me if the Genesis had AWD, I told them that it did not. Then they were suprised when I told them it is actually rear-wheel drive w/ 429 HP. Ha Ha, love this car. :D

What kind of tires do you have? Did you have any weight in the trunk?

No weight in the trunk. I have the stock tires from the dealership. I have only had the car 1 week.

Yup, typo..I meant tires. So, what kind are the stock tires?....I have zero traction in snow with my all season Bridgestone Serenities.

Strange - my rspec absolutely sucks in the snow. More than an inch or two and it's not going anywhere... I have the stock Conti DWS.

I have also had problems all winter, with even an inch on snow...
mine tires are the ProConti on an R Spec.

I put 4 - 40lbs sandbags in the trunk and it makes a big difference....

Where did you position the sandbags in the trunk?

Do you think 160 lbs. is enough or did you already try more?

Wow is this old school....put the sand bags as far rearward as possible. Good idea to secure them with at least the cargo net in case of sudden stops.

Does anyone have experience in snow with the Genesis with snow tires?

Does that adequately handle he snow issue? I'm wary about buying one because we get deep snows here and I'm more comfortable with AWD than rear. On a test drive I couldn't get out of the snow in the lot, but apparently if I'd turned off the traction control there would have been no stall. You're finding the snow tires work ok?

I have Michelin XIce-2 tires. Love them. Never a problem in the snow and very good on icy stuff here in the Twin Cities. Handles 1000 times better in the white stuff than our front-drive 2009 Elantra with standard all-season tires.

If you get a lot of deep snow that you have to drive through, the Blizzaks will be better, but they'll be a bit noisier than the Michelins.

I get a lot of deep snow. Driving with 2"+ on the roads is typical here. With the ESC on, the car stays in line really well and it handles fine. With the ESC off, you have to be a REALLY skiller driver to keep her straight.

I chose my Blizzaks for the deep snow, we dont have a ton of ice. Salt works wonders on that. Turning is fine as long as you're not punching it on the turns. With the ESC off, turning is next to impossible without putting her sideways in the snow.

I also live in the twin Cities. Do you have the snows on all 4 wheels? Do you have separate wheels also? Where do you store them the rest of the year?

Yes, winter tires on all 4 locations. IMHO this is an absolute must.

I bought a tire/wheel set from Tire Rack. I store them in the garage.

Running Michelin XIce-2 here in Denver as well. Great tires.

Anyone with experience on Hankook i'cept evos? Consumer Reports has them rated better than everything but the 2 Michelin X-ices. NE Wisconsin, and can't screw around with just any tire. Blizzaks are standards up here, but i'cepts are appreciably less dinero, and looking for feedback. Have to pull the trigger in the next 30 days or so.

Thanks.

I looked into these ones myself, the W310. From what I could find they're more of a performance winter tire, so if you deal with mostly clear roads but cold temperatures it would be great, however if you deal with a lot of deep snow or ice it may not be the best choice.

I moved to Florida. :p I'll take love bugs for 30 days in September and June over snow.
But, seriously once in a while I have to travel north in the winter and the General G-Max AS 03’s I have on my Genesis work well in light snow.
