  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This post is more of a PSA. Got a notification today about my driving score. Turns out this is enabled in the app by default.

The insurance notification is not on by default. However, figure I'd post and share incase some of us "aggressive drivers" don't want our insurance rates increasing.

I’ve never seen this before on my 2020 G70? I already have a tattle-tail device installed for insurance purposes. I only get nailed for hard braking occasionally.

My score is 45. One of the things I get nailed for is seed. I pick up my granddaughter after work late at night. Four lane divided road, not a car to be seen and 50 mph speed limit. I find 65 comfortable.

Is this part of the Bluelink system? I was wondering if it sent info to a database that got reported to insurance companies. I'm not subscribed to it now but was going to subscribe because of some upcoming travel. I was also wondering if it would report historical data. Like the time in Wyoming when I opened it up on a clear stretch of freeway with no cars in site for 20 miles ahead of me or behind me and I hit 135. The car was smooth as silk! But I don't want my insurance company to know that.

It's part of Genesis connect. So in the app it will tell you the enrollment date. And if you disable data sharing it claims to delete all data and stop sharing.

Reporting is optional. No idea about historical data but you would know if it is available before you permit sharing. OTOH, your insurance should give you a discount knowing you are capable of handling a car at 135 mph. Shows just what a good driver you are.

Ha Ha Ha, yeah, they'd think that's the sign of a good driver! It was like your going 65 in a 50, almost. I reached the top of a hill and looked down at 2 lanes of freeway reaching straight to the horizon and there was only one tiny dot of a car in my direction near the horizon. At 135, I did catch up to that car in a very short time. I was curious how fast my car could go and now I know. I'll never go that fast again.

There was a discussion here maybe two years ago about top speed for our cars, 2019-20 at that time, and the answer was just below the rated speed for the factory tires. This was confirmed, as I recall by some informal testing. 2-3 mph lower than tire rating for 2 and 3.3 respectively. (Speed testing is affected by numerous variables other than engine and transmission.)
My guess is this is common with other manufacturers.

I've read that it's 167, but that's faster than I'm willing to try.

I just did a Google search. According to topspeed.com, it's estimated at 155. I thought I had read that there was something that limited the speed to ~ 135 so I didn't want to say 140, but it was really 140 or very close to it. It's too fast for me and I won't do it again.

I live in Montana and for years we didn't have a speed limit on highways. It was left up to the driver's best judgement. That said, if you were going 60 in a crappy car with bald tires, the highway patrol could pull you over and give you a ticket for reckless driving. Now we have some areas where the speed limit is 80 mph.

Here's a test of a car on a closed road in Nevada that looks a lot like the road I was on in Wyoming except that I was on a freeway and they are elevated. It would be harder for an animal to run on to an elevated road.

The issue I find with the score is.. that you get dinged going through school zones where speed is 20. But schools not in session evening hours. regular speed is 35 so it sees it as speeding. Or some local roads Increased speeds by 5 and the smart speed HUD says the previous speed limit so it also dings me

I have to see how to upgrade firmwares.

Many of the school zones in my city are variable. The speed is reduced only if a flashing light is active, but my in dash map shows the reduced speed always. So any reporting system would report me speeding when I'm not. The other problem is the flow of traffic is almost always 5 mph over the stated speed and I believe it's safer to go with the flow. The flow near the reduced speed school zones is 10-15 over the stated and there I will not go with the flow, but it's just for a couple blocks.

Yup. Highest I've gotten on the score is 79 as of last reported score.

My driving score has been stuck on 56 for the past 10 weeks for some reason. I don't even bother looking at the details anymore.

I got paranoid about my 80 dropping to a 79 and disabled it. I'm wondering if I should turn it back on and tell the insurance company to give me my discount

My insuance company set me up with a 10% discount if I installed a device to track my driving. I told them I’m tired of such intrusive tracking of everything I do and I’ll pay the 10%.

I’ve been driving for over 50 years and have a great driving record. That should be enough. I’ve been known to take my car out on some fun roads that I ride my motorcycles on all the time. I’m very careful where and how I get my jollies, and as I said, I have a great record. I don’t want to have them telling me to slow the F down or they are going to raise my rates.

My biggest issue with those tracking devices and apps is how absolutely TERRIBLE and inconsistent they are, the tech is so bad and unreliable. You can just take a look at those apps reviews to get an idea. Those things are really in the infancy stage and shouldn't be released to the public.

But with that being said, I could definitely understand how challenging they can be to implement, I'm a software dev myself. Also keep in mind that those insurance companies aren't really specialized in developing this kind of technology so it makes sense why their software is utter garbage.

Agree the plug in devices are a POS. I use one for I pay by the mile and so far have saved a decent amount for I don’t drive a lot. With two cars sometimes my convertible sits in the garage for several weeks unused so I’m paying very little then. The device I have also measures speeding above 80mph and hard braking. The braking sensitivity was way too sensitive and dinging me when it should not have been. I added a short extension to my OBDll port so the device now can swing freely so sensitivity is much reduced. I save enough money I deal with the privacy invasion and being slightly hamstrung for right now. Still can have fun with both cars, just stay under 80mph and be a little careful on activating the ABS system too often.
