  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How do I turn the sensor off that goes off if I get too close to another car? Or how do I modify it so it doesn't go off right away. I feel that it sometimes goes off unnecessarily.

Well, you probably are too close. If you get hit from behind, the closer you are, the better chance of being pushed into the car ahead. Ideally, you should be able to see the rear tire of the car ahead. That will prevent 99% of the warnings.

One other reason they go off is the car in front has sensors too and if less than two meters between you, they wanto to talk to each other. Typically, parts like this are made by third party companies and are used by many car makers.

I typically have a lot of space in between me and the car in front of me. Even though (I admit) sometimes I do drive too close. The sensor goes off when there is ample space between me and the car in front. Is there a way to reduce the distance?

If the alarm is sounding is because you're too close. It has happened to me too, and I simply turn the system off with the left button behind the shifter and drive mode knob. It turns back on if you put car in R, or next ignition cycle.

Thank you!!

Is there a way to reduce the distance in the settings?

Unfortunately no. And yes, sometimes they start beeping sooner than other times, since they're calibrated for short distances, but it's normal, so no worries about that. The good news is when you keep the distance you should, they never sound. It's only when we get too close, so it's a way to keep you on your toes, I guess. Ha ha. I only had to shut it off a couple of times in over a year... and I don't leave a lot of space in front of me.

I turn mine off as soon as I start driving. I press the button to activate the system when parking, forward or backward, since I cannot see the distance necessary to judge or obstacles that may be out of view. I use Auto Hold at stops so no creeping or idling forward which might cause the system to beep if it were on.

Mine sometimes randomly goes off as well, even though there's enough space. Sometimes it will come on after I've been sitting at a light for a bit, even though nobody moved, and then it may stop just as unexpectedly. Maybe it's space lasers 🤣

It's not as random as you may think. Frequently, it is because the backup sensors on the car ahead of you are active.
