  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long story short, I'm buying a new Genesis 3.8 and giving my car to my mom in LA. I have to drive the brand new car from LA to the bay area after picking it up from the lot.

Any advice on avoiding small rock dings or such on the 5 while driving up. Is it ok to drive the new car off the bat on the highway in excess of 75 mph for 5 hours +, or should I let my mom drive the new car in the city for a while before hitting the highway.

Thanks.

Glenn

I'm pretty sure the only rules are:

1. Don't redline it.
2. Don't drive over 80 or 90% of potential speed.
3. Very important: DON'T USE CRUISE CONTROL. Speeds must be varied.
4. Don't slam on the brakes.

I this all applies to the first 500 or 600 miles. My opinion is that #s 3 and 4 are most important.

I THINK this applies...(not this)

I would have a clear 3m or similar bra installed asap. I will be applying this and a quality 35% ceramic window tint on mine when it arrives.
There are many places that install these clear protective front end bras, just google it for your current area.
And congrads!
PS: I test drove the 2012 r-spec today, see my review under posts "5.0 R-Spec just arrived in Atlanta".
Cheers!
