If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Put all of that in the title, so hopefully the next person looking for this info can find it.
I searched, and only found (through google search, not the search in the forum) an old post.

Anyone have any RECENT experience with using the new type 1157 'switchback' LED bulbs, in place of the bulbs I have been using/replacing since the 1960's?
The bulb that is both the DRL and also the front turn signal indicator, on my 2015 3.8 AWD. (amber, in MY case)

Like these:

I have read that a resistor is needed, to prevent the light from blinking 20 times faster than normal/as if you have a blown lightbulb..
(he way the car told me my bulb was blown)

I'm not looking to spend $100 and 3 days on this, to have the brightest lights in town or something......just looking to do this repair ONCE, and thought it might be a simple/inexpensive fix/alternative to the Tom Edison part.... ;)

Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Bumping because I have the same question.

I was curious as well, and I'm happy to be the guinea pig so I've ordered them just now. Hopefully I can find time to tinker with it over the weekend and let you know how it goes.

So the bulbs came in today and I couldn't wait to give them a shot. I opened up the hood, removed the sway bar and the air filter box but when I plugged in the new setup to test out the bulb it actually flashed white instead of amber with both the turn signal and hazard lights switched on. Wasn't quite sure where to go from there so I put everything back together with the factory bulb setup and will do some more research on it before trying again. It was raining so I couldn't see if it lights up white or amber when the DRL are on but I would think the whole point of the relays are to distinguish between constant on and flashing and therefore to activate a different set of leds. I've seen similar setups with LED flame bulbs for example but the relays are inside those bulbs because there is so much extra space. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I too ordered a set of 1157 led switchbacks. When I installed my set they lit up amber and flashed amber as well. It seems as though the problem is with the 1157 socket. I noticed that the 1157 socket only had 1 power node while the bulb has 2 so I took the bulbs out. It seems like my passenger side socket is burnt out so I am thinking about replacing the 1157 socket to a 3 wire instead of a 2 wire by using an adapter called Blinker Genie 2.

Wow... Blinker Genie seems like it was what I needed before deciding to go full headlight swap. Nice find.

So I finally have all the parts to see if the Blinker Genie will work. Will update once I have everything wired in. Will try and take pics if I remember.

Just got back from the dealer. Charged me $53.49 for drivers side turn signal bulb (P/N 18644-28087). Thats the second one this year. So I will be eagerly awaiting the verdict on the Blinker Genie.
PS: On the bright side, I got a $17.95 Holiday special on the oil change.

Sorry for the delay but I had to run out to get some more butt connectors and heat shrink tubing.

Plus this 100 degree weather in jersey isnt helping things either lol
No doubt... that's why I haven't touched mine since back around the end of April. About all I can stand to do in this heat is to wash my car.

So here is an update. Looks like the blinker genie doesn't work. Ended up going to my friends car stereo shop after I tried to put them in and while the 1157 3 wire socket worked before hooking it up to the blinker genie once it was all installed in the vehicle nothing worked.
