  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There can be no doubt that the environment is healthier due to the elimination of leaded gas. If anyone wants to argue with that, fire away.

"A longer version of this article appeared in the January/February issue of MOTHER JONES"

Yes, the environment is better, also because removal of lead from paint. But to say there is a cause and effect relating to a coincidental drop in violent crime is ridiculous, and there is no proof whatsoever that one event (removal of lead from gas) has caused the other (reduction in violent crime).

This kind of irresponsible science reminds me of the (widely criticized) claim made by Time Magazine recently, which promoted the idea that the reason the Boston Marathon bomber committed those terrorist acts was because he likely suffered brain damage during his boxing career (he was Golden Gloves boxer).

^ Totally. Mother Jones articles are notorious for presenting data in a vacuum in order to provoke an emotional response that supports their ideology.

More left wing tree hugger babble.

Are you referring to the benefits of reducing environmental lead levels or the difficulty in demonstrating a causal relationship between lead levels and violent crime, which is a problem in statistics that has nothing to do with where you sit on the political spectrum per se?
