If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A GM at a dealership is selling his Geny for a real good price. It is a certified car. The car was such a smooth ride....very nice. My only issue it felt nothing like a 429 hp V-8....or what I thought it would be. Is it the fact that I did not manually shift the car that left me a little unimpressed?

I can understand what you're saying. I was sorta' unimpressed with my 4.6L also. It's not a drag car and appears almost anemic compared to my 08 Azera which has 100 less horse power. However, after having my Genesis for a little over a month, I've found the power rolls on smoothly rather than sending your head into the headrest upon hard acceleration. Make no mistake, the power is there and the car uses all of it, it's just not "slam you back in the seat" kind of power. After all it's way more luxury sedan than sport sedan.

Exactly right.....it was moving....just not the head snap thing. I will bet that it is a whole lot more pronounced with manual shifting....

Nope!!!

This is a heavy car. It takes a bit to get going but then it takes off. I never expected it to be on par with a cobra.

I have to say....it felt damn good.....like a big car. The guy had Equus wheels on it to boot.

When I finally came to realize how fast it really is was once when I was just getting onto the interstate. I was coming from downtown and got on a spur for about 2 miles..... once I got a little clear of traffic, I floored it and was totally amazed that it was still pulling very strong at 120mph!! The Genny was gaining on the cars ahead of me at a very rapid rate. I just popped it in neutral and coasted (forever) down to the speed limit. That was when I knew this car is FAST!!

the r spec certainly fits the definition of a sleeper pretty well. even the driver doesn't know how quickly they're breaking the law!

You don't really appreciate just how quickly you're accelerating unless you watch the speedometer swiftly blow through numbers.

I finally got my new rspec on the highway for the long weekend. The roads were pretty busy, but there was a jerk with a bmw sportcar riding my ass like he thought he owned the road.

It was a single lane mountain road with few places to pass. He passed me the first chance he got, and then I floored my genny. He went up 2 cars, I went up about 12 cars in the same stretch. Before I knew it I was going 165km in a 80 zone and was shocked at how fast I got up there. The bmw never caught up to me again.

I didn't mean to go that fast, it just took me by surprise. This is a great highway car. The only delay I ever get is the first second or two from a complete stop. It does take a second to get this car going, but once in motion it really moves.

I had similar feelings but part of the equation might be the noise. The car is much quieter than other v8 cars I have driven, therefore it might give the perception of not having 429, but after driving the car for a few months there is no doubt it is very fast.

I also think ride height and (lack) of noise really influence the perception of performance. I cannot tell you how many times I have entered a freeway ramp and found myself having to get off the gas pedal and/or hit the brake because the sensation of speed was misleading.

Yup - even with the 3.8 you can get going way too fast before you realize it.

Agreed

My take on it. longer gears opposed the 6sp six I came from. sound deadening, whisper quiet exhaust and intake. The only thing we can go by is snap of neck in seat... honestly I just don't feel it.

however this car is 1/4 mile material... not 0-60.

unfortunately im a 0-60 kinda guy :(

regarding power... the engine 5.0 DI variable this that and the other.. compared to 5.7 and other larger American engines has proved to be even in performance (camero, Challenger etc). Gas mileage has got to be better.

our car is 4000+ (4100 if I recall) lbs. that's a ton of weight to be pushing.

I wouldn't call our car Very fast as another posted... I'd say fast. Even my tuned bmw I wouldn't consider very fast ( 4.2 second car 0-60 ) but its no slouch when compared to the majority of 4 & 6 cylinder NA engines out there.

ppp

the rspec on par w/ a cobra? i think that's a bit of a stretch considering the cobra is on a totally different level -higher- when it comes to sport and performance. the rspec is not even close to the new cobra when talking performance numbers. for example, the cobra is in the 3's 0-60 , whereas the genny is in the high 4's 0-60. huge difference.

when it comes to handling dynamics - especially mountain roads- the bmw DOES own the road. they're in a league of their own.

After 6 different Porche products...2 being 911 Turbos....noise has nothing to do with perception....the Geny moves really well.....but get a grip:cool:
