  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This A.M., My new Nissan toggled over to standard time all by itself - the "auto" clock setting - the default - accomplished this. Hands off.

On my '15 Genesis - the DST toggling has to be done manually.

This topic was beat to death some time ago on a lengthy thread - but I don't think a consensus was ever reached as to why some cars do and some don't (toggle automatically).

Anybody know for a certainty?

Also, do the G80/G90 series automatically toggle DST?

Good question. I'm sure the programming is easy enough to do either way. Arizona does not do DST, Europe changed a week ago, Australia changed two weeks ago. Most crs with navigation have the ability to gt the time from a satellite, good for accuracy. The dates of change can also change depending on the whims of Congress, though that does not happen often. If the clock, part of the head unit is a world wide design it may make sense to have a manual change.

Most areas of the United States observe daylight saving time (DST), the exceptions being Arizona (except for the Navajo, who do observe daylight saving time on tribal lands), Hawaii, and the overseas territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands.

I think the problem is that the date formula (eg 1st Sunday in November) when the change occurs keeps changing over the years. There is also constant talk of getting rid of DST altogether. An automatic system will need an update to keep up with changes, ours won't.

i had to manually change mine also even though it was turned on in the settings

When you "turn on" DST in the genny settings - all it does is toggle the time an hour - nothing else.

My Nissan (1/2 the price of the genny) has an "auto" setting which is completely hands off.

I see.. i thought it was "hands off' with the genesis.. thanks

I do find it odd that the time is GPS sync'd but can't do DST change over. HMMMMMMMMMMMM

It is gps synced but satellites don't do DST. Nor does all the states and all the world, and those that do can do it at different times of the year.

My Nissan is gps synced and it does a completely auto DST changeover - as I previously noted.

I watched it very carefully yesterday a.m. when I started the car: The clock read 10:10 am for maybe a 1/3 of a second and then toggled back to 9:10 am - the correct local standard time - hands off.

In a previous, and very long thread, some posters listed other cars that did an auto DST toggle. Maybe the navi. chip has the necessary data stored in it.

In defense of the designers, automatic change is great for the >90% where it works, but one has to be in that majority. Case in point, even Nissan owners have problems:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/121-3rd-gen-2015/191674-end-dst-shouldn-t-clock-adjust.html

It's easy to make a judgement based on one's experience. The question is this: it is worse to have manually change something, and knowing you can do it right, or have something automatically change it, and risk being wrong some of the time? Which type of forum message would you rather see, an owner complaining that DST setting is not auto, or that the auto DST setting doesn't work?

i had the same thinking...i thought this should have changed automatically on 40k plus car but nope...then i thought maybe if i connect the phone it will sync the time but nope....maybe if i launched android auto but time was right in AA but was back to DST when AA was unplugged...then i found the DST flag and it beats messing with adjusting the clock...not too bad twice a year. besides some places don't observe DST like AZ so from a design standpoint it might be less headache to leave it as is and let the owner make the change if needed.

It would be a nice feature to have the time change automatically, but in my mind the 10-15 seconds it takes to turn off DST is a fair trade.

I like doing it manually so I can watch the analog clock spin around to the new time. :-)

Why not go to the setup screen and call up the navi gps display settings - you can watch the satellites and check your altitude.

I'd like the option of having the altitude displayed all the time. Not a necessity, but a curiosity in hilly terrain.

As a matter of interest - the displayed altitudes are quite accurate - checked it out on a drive thru the Appalachian mtns.

The displayed tire pressures on both my cars are right on also. Very useful

Considering how simple it is to navigate to the setting to change the time, for a twice a year adjustment, it's just not a big deal to me.
