  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dont have my manual at work and am a bit perplexed.

Love the new Genesis. When I play a video (Porcupine Tree) I am able to skip "chapters" On the way to work this morning I put on a Miles Davis concert.

Setup seems a bit more involved. Dont know if this is a function of this particular disc. i was given choice between DTS or 5.1? Which is a better sound quality?

I went to switch to a different "chapter" (track) but I could no with the Miles disc?. i tried on both the steering wheel and the controller on the center console. Odd.
Somehow the video started to FF but I could not abort this. Than of course it started all over and I could not get back to where I was. I FF but could not stop it. Is this just a learning curve in your experience or do I need to make a trip to the dealer??

Also, when it went back to the beginning I dont know if the setup reverted to stereo or kept the 5.1. If in park and video is on I can check all this however if driving I cannot seem to access the setup as far as audio.

Lastly, in XM I can setup my balance and fade etc. I cannot seem to do this in the video mode. Wanted a bit more out of the rear but could not access setup unless I switched to XM and this sort of ruins the experience.

Are these just "new user" issues?

Thanks.

Yes, new user trial and error.
You always must set up a DVD before driving. As you learned, no access to controls while in motion.
On many (most?) DVD's, you're given a choice between Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 or Stereo. My preference is usually DTS, but decide for yourself. And yes, you can set fader and EQ before driving off too.
Lastly, skipping 'chapters' is probably a function (or lack) of this disc. Usually works for me via steering wheel.

Btw, is your PT a DVD-A or a DVD? Which one?

PT? I think you refer to Porcupine Tree.
States it is a DVD. Not 5.1. Tltle is Arriving Somewhere.

Heard about them on forum but could not find 5.1. DVD-A better than DVD??

I find very few DVD in 5.1 at Barnes and Noble or Best Buy. Not sure why.

Tons on Amazon. Just ordered a couple. The video is great. Im thinking about moving intomy Genesis if I can find a place to put the shower and refrig.

Yes, Porcupine Tree. You can find some of their DVD-A's here:
http://www.burningshed.com/

(Check out the King Crimson re-masters done by Steven Wilson of PT in DVD-A while you're there!)

Best Buy, B&N:
Almost EVERY DVD is in 5.1. If you meant DVD-A, you're right. A mostly dead format, with only a few artists and releases each year.

And I agree about the shower and fridge!

Funny, at my B&N as well as best Buy here in Ocala, Fl not many 5.1. I did read fine print. Even more funny in my rush to hear the system I bought Roy Orbison Black and White at BB. Read it was killer in Dolby. Would not play?? I look again and its Blue Ray. BB was nice about it. As I purchased 5 minutes earlier let me switch out.

Backto Hyundai by Choice:

Quick question. You said DVD-A is dead for the most part.

indicate higher sampling rate etc. I would think better sound? Did it not catch on or just difficult to find DVD-A?

Thanks its a learning process. Never gave much thought to my music "radio" at home and FM in last car. I am blown away.

Have fun!

First, it's wonderful to see so many PT fans here!

I'm finding it depends on the title. I have the DTS 5.1 discs of "In Absentia", "Deadwing", "Fear of a Blank Planet" and Anathema's "We're Here Because We're Here" loaded.

At start-up, for all discs EXCEPT Deadwing, I get a track listing and can switch between tracks as well as FFWD and REW during playback. However, Deadwing has video during playback. Granted it's just stills, this prevents operation of the "knob" or whatever we call that joystick dealio.

That being said, you CAN use your up/down arrows on the left audio controls on the steering wheel to skip forward and backward on the disc.

I was trying the up/down not l/r to switch. Ill try on the way in this morning. A change in the music: Today it will be James Brown Live in Montreaux, I believe 1981.
