  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No legal or simple way. You'd be far better off buying a portable DVD player.

Yes there is a way to do a bypass. The issue is that only one company makes the part needed for it and it costs $300. Most audio shops will probably charge about an hour of labor.

NavTV makes the only kit I've seen. Works great, took about 30 min to install with a screw driver and 10mm socket. Cost was $300

thanks! It seems kind a foolish that the system has a 6 DVD changer, but you can only view videos while in park. I'll check out the suggested item.

Silly Hyundai to comply with the law.

I suspect there is a software switch in the system somewhere but without deep access I have no idea how to change things. So... what is the exact product from Nav-TV? All I saw was AVSW for $100 and it wasn't clear that the product does the job.

Correct they were required to make it this way in the US unjust glad there is a decent bypass for it because the law is stupid.

How so? I doubt you would like every driver on the road to be watching TV, while they text, chat on the phone, smoke and drink coffee. Why do you exclude yourself as a potential hazard?

Adults shouldn't have to rely on the car manufacturer (or government) to tell us it's dumb to watch TV while you drive. You can grab a $30 portable DVD player from best buy if a person wanted to drive and watch TV. This has nothing to do with the car, or the availability of a in car DVD.

It's a car that seats 4 people other than the driver. On medium to long trips it would be nice to use the 6 DVD changer installed in the car for the others in the car to watch, instead of fighting over 12v power outlet and getting tangled up in cords. Besides I'm occupied with my iphone when I drive, no time to watch a movie (<-- joke of course).

Back to topic, $300 is really steep, but I may have to invest.

If companies don't remind people that certain actions are dangerous, those companies get sued for not reminding people that certain actions are dangerous. We live in a society (at least in the US) that rewards people for blaming others for their actions, so companies have to act accordingly.

"Dad can I borrow your Genesis tonight? I want to show all the girls that new civil liberties DVD after we leave Julio's bar tonight."

"Sure, honey. After all, this is America, the land of the free and the home of the brave."

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I had the NavTV setup in my Genesis and took it out because I am planning to trade in my car. I will sell you mine if you are interested. It installs really easy and you can print the instructions right from NavTVs website. My email is miguelcamacho17@gmail.com.

Before you invest.....consider the financial consequences should you get into a major collision and your victim's attorney finds out you had installed a video bypass.

Of course you could claim you were actually looking at the nav screen for directions before plowing into that hapless grandmother and her two grandchildren but how do you think a jury would vote?

And your insurance company just might find an illegal bypass sufficient to cancel or decline your coverage.

Just not worth it. Just buy a portable DVD player if it is that important. No worries.

The chances of that happening are less than slim to none. The only way they would know is if you called up said attorney and said "Hey, I was watching a movie when it happened because I have a video bypass".

I don't want to get into a shoving match here but trust me, there are several ways they can find out.

Most cars involved in serious collisions are impounded immediately. That means you do not have access to it to undo any illegal mods you may have made. All it takes is for one of the kids in the back seat to mention they were watching a cartoon when the crash occurred and you have piqued official interest.

Distracted driving is becoming more and more a central issue when accidents are investigated.

I'm not saying it is likely but is it really worth the risk?

Something else that occurs to me......do you really want some asinine kid's program playing through your stereo while you drive? I sure don't. Plug the kids into their own earbuds and either enjoy your excellent sound system or peace and quiet.

in my unsolicited (and perhaps unwanted) opinion, this is the single biggest reason to not waste $ on a video bypass, if there's even the remote possibility of kids in tow ...

good cartoons died with the old Looney Tunes/Tom & Jerry.

<end rant>
