I have a Tech Package and I have been playing music DVD's. Obviously it plays the DVD when the car is in Park but not when driving. Does anyone know if you can make it play the DVD when driving?

I unfortunately do not have my Genesis yet, waiting for the V8. But, I would hope that somebody would be able to come up with a work-around for the DVD player by the time I get mine.

Only the audio portion, which is fine, except you can't make song selections because you can't see the menu. I'm sure someone will come up with a video work around, but not yet, as far as I know.

The guy who did my tint was also a sound shop who sold aftermarket DVDs and he said he could fix it, and was convinced it was a wired disconnect. I'm not so sure it isn't software controlled within the DIS. At any rate, he DID NOT disassemble my dash and DIS with 30 miles on a car he had never laid eyes on.

As I was getting in my new Genesis to drive away from the dealer where I purchased it, a salesman standing by said something to the effect that there was a way to disable the audio-only setting for DVD's that takes over when the car is in gear. He said they couldn't tell customers but..... and then said something about the shift lever. I was drinking up the smell and feel of my new car, and really didn't care enough about it at the time to listen or to press him for something "off the record".

Since I've lane-wandered a time or two while fiddling with the DIS, I'm not sure I want to be tempted by this....

My wife in the passenger seat would get a kick out of it though.

Anyone who offers a way to hotwire the video system into thinking it is in park when actually in drive would be very irresponsible. Sure it would be cool to have the DVD playing while you are driving down the road, until there is a car crash and a lawsuit.

There is just no practical reason to give someone advice to disable a safety feature.

i am sure it is in the software. there is a signal sent from the transmission computer to the DIS called transmission inhibition. if the signal is lost it will set a code U1984. i don't see anyway of hacking the DIS. give it time and i am sure someone will though....

Ah Ha. Another member who has been to the support site to read up on the Error Codes and their descriptions. Really good stuff in there!!

I'm not so sure there isn't a link between the reported "buzz on start" issue discussed here, and the inhibition system. That beast touches almost every circuit in the car!

that site is quite the information find. in an hour i learned more about that car than i ever would from a dealer. the communications & systems supporting them (fiber optic network!!) taking place in this car are unbelievable.
