Respecting the Dynomax VTs, been there and done that. I may have been the first one to do this, but who cares?
Originally, I installed a Magnaflow on my 2011 4.6. In my original installation, I tossed the "X" pipe and installed instead a Magnaflow "X" resonator, which appears to be much like the Dynomax "X" resonator, but a bit smaller. This system droned obnoxiously.
Then I installed the Dynomax VTs, probably their early version. Drone gone. Installation not a drop in though. My exhaust guy is an artist, and still had trouble placing the VTs in the OEM position. The muffler still "showed" from the side of the car, so painted the muffler flat black, and it almost disappeared.

I was very happy with the overall sound. Sold the car to a good friend who is not a car guy, who like the sound also. However, sound appeal is entirely subjective and individualist. Personally, I don't care what it sounds like to bystanders outside the car. I am looking for power/mileage more than sound with an exhaust system. My listening is from inside the car. I hate drone and a continous loud exhaust. The Dynomax VT delivered, for me, almost OEM silence on light throttle, and a pleasant sound under heavier throttle. There are no exhaust rattles, period, even after 30K miles.

I now have an RSpec, and a Magnaflow for it waiting for installation. It is an entirely different system than the 4.6 Magnaflow. I'm leaving next week on a long road trip, so I will not install the Magnaflow until after I get back, as I want a "shakedown" period. If there is undue drone, then I will install the Dynomax VT's, which appear to be a much easier installation than on my 4.6.

I had the MagnaFlow muffler 11386 installed to replace the OEM resonator. The exhaust guy spoke highly of the OEM part and how straight though it was. He also commented how well the OEM system was designed. I brought the kinks in the OEM exhaust to his attention in front of resonator, and he said that the kinks are really not that bad compared to many other OEM exhaust systems.

ANYWAY - Idea behind this replacement was to reduce exhaust drone. The drone is still present, but reduced just a tad. The exhaust note seems the same (maybe a tad quieter) until abour 3,000 RPM's and at this point and higher I think the engine sounds a little more opened up or less deep burble.

I guess the best way to describe this is to record a video, *sigh* which I will when I feel like doing it. Maybe this weekend.

What I really need is a road trip to decide if the change is enough of a change. I want to go to Duluth as it is kinda an incline from my place to just before the city of Duluth and the drone got a little annoying last trip there. I will state again.....the drone is not really an issue for me, but If I can improve or get rid of it...even better.

Dynomax VT's are not out of the picture, but I'm afraid the VT's will be TOO quiet under normal driving.

BTW- measured the decibels of my exhaust before I changed it.

COLD START UP (32 degrees outside a few weeks ago) was 82 dbls for about 20 seconds until the cats heated up. after this the dbls were sitting even at 72 dbls.

I know this thread is about 8 months old but I'm seriously considering the Dynomax VT mufflers due to the modest "growl" sound improvement, lack of drone, and hp/mpg gain. Has anyone else installed these or does anyone have any video links for the sound on a 4.6? Thanks for any updates!

I'm with you and I did exactly that. I took a video with my phone as I just got the Dynomax VTs installed today. These are SILENT cruising on local streets at 45-50mph:

You're welcome! I paid $340 total for everything. I realize I paid a little bit of a premium on the mufflers getting them from the shop rather than online but I wanted the shop to be accountable for the parts and I wanted to be absolutely certain that I got the correct part numbers for this application. I also know that this shop will take care of me if something goes wrong.

As far as the sound, I get a nice growl taking off from stop signs or lights and the thing sings if I stand on the throttle. I took the car for a short jaunt on the freeway earlier and couldn't tell the mufflers were even there while I was driving between 65 and 85 with the windows down. I couldn't be happier so far!

Very cool. Thanks for the review. I'm planning to swap out the mufflers on my Magnaflow system with the Dynomax 17159 cans.

So what you did was just a muffler swap, correct? No other parts like crossovers, resonators etc etc?

Yes, exactly. I only switched the mufflers and left everything else stock.

Is there anything you could relate it too? I know it's a pain, but are we talking Infinity loudness sound, or ?????

Yes, I really like the way they sound. Basically, here's my take:

At idle
Stock: Virtually silent
Dynomax VT: Subtle low rumble

Mild throttle
Stock: Louder than idle but not much
Dynomax VT: Muscular vrooom sound but not so much that you sound like some 5.0 mustang with Flowmasters. Again, it's subtle but noticeable.

Heavy throttle
Stock: Nothing spectacular. A little bit of a purr.
Dynomax VT: The best way I can describe it is the sound you hear the last time I goose the throttle in that video... You hear this rrrrRRRRRRR sound which is just fantastic.

My goal with this exhaust choice: Giving my V8 a voice while still maintaining the quiet comfort I was looking for when I'm just cruising down the road or freeway. This exhaust will NOT make your Genesis sound like a muscle car as you roll by so if that's what you are looking for you'll be better off going with Borla, Magnaflow, or Flowmaster.

By the way, if you're referring to the little growl a stock G37 makes when it takes off, this is louder than that and the note is much lower pitched (thanks V8!).

PERFECT write up! Thanks for the extra info. This is EXACTLY how I want the car to sound. Added bonus, I don't think the wife will even notice!

No problem, happy to help! Yeah this one definitely will pass the wife test if you just swap the mufflers like I did. If you didn't tell her that you changed the exhaust and just took her for a ride while driving conservatively, my bet is that she'd be none the wiser.

I think you'll be pleased with them. As far as a part number, I'm afraid I can't help with that. The muffler shop I go to carries Dynomax so I just brought the car in. My guy looked underneath to determine where the inlets were and ordered the right mufflers for the application.

Looks like the stock exhaust is 2 1/4" diameter so there is only one choice in the VT model: 17155

Might want to check the 4.6. I am assuming they are the same diameter as he RSpec but not sure.
Easiest way to measure is wrap a string around the circumference of the pipe and determine the diameter from that.
