  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Interested in getting some feedback from people with the VT's installed on their car.

Have any of you had any rattle or valve flap issues with your mufflers. I have read a ton of reviews that people have problems with a rattle from the valve flapping open at idle and when you take your foot off the exhaust.

Not sure if this has been talked about but I have not seen it mentioned on this forums.

It's been mentioned numerous times and there should be a few threads on the topic. I have my exhaust vids in one of them (ran the VT's up until last month).

Make sure the ones you buy have the foam around the flapper. Old version did not and rattled.

I installed VTs on my '11 4.6 - ran them 30K miles. No rattles whatsoever.

NSXNEXT: are you sure there is foam around the flapper? Cannot imagine foam would survive for very long.

I believe the rattling issue with the VT's was fixed long ago by Dynomax. I've had the VT's on my R-Spec for a few thousand miles now with no issues.

I also have a Dynomax VT and there's no rattling issue. It is not loud at low RPMs and will become nice and aggressive when the flap opens under high RPMs. If you have an exhaust system that makes inconsistent flow at idle, the flap might open and close continuously causing the rattle.

Which model # can I buy that is a direct replacement for stock mufflers on a 2010 4.6L?? Or are modifications necessary?

2012 5.0..I've ordered from Jegs: 2.25 VT's, 2 2.25 race mufflers to act as resonators, X-pipe, & a couple clamps. I can't bend any bigger than 2.25". I expect some challenges at the mufflers matching up to stock exit. Hope to install before Thanks Giving. I'll check back later. BTW I've experienced several occasions that my brake pedal has gone to the floor & required a couple pumps to regain pedal. Other problems include window control failure & control mouse being unresponsive for hundreds of attempts.

I mounted Dynomax VTs on my 2011 4.6. It was not a drop in fit. It required "canting" the mufflers a bit from horizontal position. It looked really good. With mufflers painted flat black one could hardly see them. It might be easier with the center outlet.inlet version.
Drone is a huge problem with any aftermarket exhaust. The only solutions I have seen are the Dynomax VT and unobtainable Corsa.

On the Dynomax website I see a few different models, which one is the best fit for the 4.6? Also will the stock tips fit the VT's?

While I'm here... My 5.0 brake failure resulted in leaving it with CarMax. They, & I think Hyundai, diagnosed it to be the booster.. I'm not so sure. Besides, the booster is "back-ordered." Been waiting since 10/06/16. Exhaust on hold cuz no car:<(

I fit a Dynomax to a 4.6. It had off-set inlet/outlets, which made it difficult. I think the Dynomax model with center inlet/outlet would be easier. But this model has 3" opening, which you will have to "neck down". My mounting was done by a pro and required some ingenuity. Whatever, do not expect a drop in fitment.

Re: Dynomax VT vs Magnaflow in 5.0

Whet through the process of upgrading my 5.0 exhaust last summer. Thought these RTA pics would help someone else. All pics were captured from drivers headrest @ 45 mph with slight uphill grade, shadow trace is WOT.

First picture is stock for a base line, second pic (with giant single peak) is MagnaFlow performance series, and the last pic is Dynomax VT. The Dynomax gave the best overall sound WOT and cruising. The cruising DB is only 18db louder than stock and is spread out across a nice toothy frequency spectrum. The MagnaFlow was very monotone, as you can see from the trace, the 125 hz drone was the same WOT as uphill cruising. (think of Dynomax VT as a well tuned band where you could hear multiple instruments simultaneous, and the Magnaflow was a still a band, but the guy playing the 152hz cowbell was way too excited!) The magnaflow also induced some serious resonant vibrations into the console.

Anyway the Dynomax wasn't without problems. I did have the newer ones (with padding), but since I did a true dual system the flow rate at idle caused the valves to shut between cycles and sounded horrible. However, I used some steel bolts and drilled into the valve to keep them open. This cured the problem and left me with a majestic and terrifying WOT and quiet cruising.

Final system: 2.5" true dual front to rear with 2nd cat delete, 28" Thrush glass packs in intermediate pipes, and Dynomax VTs at rear.
