  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

ECO Driving Mode

OP has a 1st gen, so.. yeah? It got turned from what the ECO mode on the 1st Gen does, to what it does on the 2nd gen. As stated, the 1st gen mode doesn't actually do anything but turn on a light, so it's easy to confuse things by also talking about the 2nd gen which does have an eco mode that does something. This thread isn't about the 2g's

^^This place needs a like button! I find it amazing how confused people get navigating this forum. ECO display is nothing but a display in my 2013 R-Spec.

It is a resurrected five year old thread that says "Eco Driving Mode" The only reference to 1st Gen is in the barely noticed fine print. If you joined in the past year of two and clicked on "new posts" it pops up with the title in bold.

?? The OP has 1G 5.0 R-Spec in his header and signature and in the first line of his post. I also don't see any reference to 2G. Plus it's in the 1G forum.

Right, and 5 people here have 2G or later. This happens when you resurrect a 5 year old topic. If you click on "new posts" in bold you see ECO Driving Mode.

Look, when you turn "OFF" the ECO mode, the computer changes slightly the algorithms for transmission shift points, engine rpm, etc. The little green "eco" light is only there to remind you that you are now in the fuel economy mode. Hard throttle and the light goes off. ECO mode is good for highway driving, or when you are not aggressively driving. You can test the difference by noticing the shift point changes when you are in each. Off- more aggressive shifts up or down, higher revs, and lower fuel economy. Actually in town mileage will slightly improve when "ON" because shifts are in lower rpm ranges. When you are playing with other cars make sure you are in "OFF" mode to get most out of the car's performance. Also the harder you stomp it, the computer will learn to go to it's programmed limits for performance, particularly if you use 93 premium.

When I put my 2015 in the ECO mode I get much a different shift pattern than in Normal or Sport. Seems to shift up sooner than in the other modes and has slower acceleration.

Yes, evidently older models did not do that. The gas pedal gets a little mushy on fast acceleration too. Never drove a full tank in ECO mode so I don't know how much difference there is.

I just find it funny anyone would purchase a 4200lb boat with 5 litre V8 and give a single shit about an "eco" driving mode button lol.

Agreed, on my 2018 G80, as well as other things mentioned, ECO mode reduces air conditioning in the summer, to save fuel. For this "fat boy" definitely not a good trade off :) Forget the ECO setting.

I will second, or third this.

OK. I'll fourth it. I've had cars with big V8 engines and you could feel the AC compressor kick in. Back in the 60's they took a lot of power. Not so much today with better compressor design. I can see the auto maker bleeding every mpg to get a good rating but in everyday driving, I'm willing to pay a penny or two for comfort.

It’s fine to pay extra for comfort but have you tried it in the Eco mode. On the G90 5.0 I really cant tell the difference. Maybe I am not as sensitive as you folks but I never feel it kick in at all.
