  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

ECU Flash for 4.6?

so its been a while since your reflash, have you noticed anything yet?

Not really. The car did have a problem running correctly one cold start in the morning just before the flash and I guess it was stored in memory. So dealer must have been told to update. Car didn't turn on the check engine light and so I don't know cause or if it's cured. It hasn't happened again. Since we've recently moved from S. CA to NY the fuel that we have used has also changed from witch's brew 91 to 92/93 premium. Fuel economy has been great in NY, but commute changed from I-405 parking lot to cruise control Taconic SP & I-84.

I got my car back from ECU flash. I found a guy able to modify settings like shift points and extract more HP from the engine. The car now drives more aggressive.

The transmission shift quicker especial from first to second gear.

Can you tell us how he did it and what he changed?

Last time we took our '09 4.6 in for service the dealer reflashed the ECU to update it. Don't know what was changed, but the service rep said that there's were some cars having problems and so there was an update. Took them several hours to D/L the update and then burn it to the car.

I'm looking at my invoice from the dealer when I took mine in for the ECM update and it took all of 30 minutes. Mine seems to launch a little harder (quicker). Overall drivability is about the same.

Just a heads up. Our Factory scantool now does ECU mapping. What this does is it scans your ECU and compares the checksum and other data with the known factory info in a server in california and will flag your vin and void the powertrain warranty on the spot if there is a difference. As of right now you have to press a tab to do this but soon it will be automatic and the info will be uploaded as soon as we plug in the scan tool. This came about because of our turbo cars. Electronic wastgate actuators mean you can program more boost and they don't like to warranty that.

BMW has been doing this for some time. The 3.0 turbo six has tremendous potential and the reflash will unleash this. When the car goes to the dealer for service or repair, if the computer has been flashed it will show up and that will be the end of all warranty and free service. Not only that but the vin will be redflagged in the BMW system for all future dealers to see.
