All my cars have done this, not only the Genesis ones.
Yep, they all have semi-metallic brakes which causes this. Surface rust build-up on the rotors will cause the squealing, too. I've learned to ignore it.All my cars have done this, not only the Genesis ones.
This happened to me on entirely different cars too previously, especially after a touchless car wash at the corner of the street and leaving the car parked for the night afterwards. Just driving it and braking clears it, it's like a thin layer of rust on a brake disc is formed after it's been wet, but then just braking the car makes it scrub it off. The GV70 did it to me once or twice but so did every other car I owned previously.Beginning with the colder temps and damper conditions of winter, I've been noticing lately that the brakes on my eGV70 are squeaking/squealing loudly when I back out of my garage on the first drive of the day. Is anyone else here noticing this with their eGV70?
I think I'll activate the "disc brake cleaning" function later today and go for a longish drive and apply the brakes aggressively and frequently. That action should help remove any glaze that may have developed on the pads and rotors, which can cause squeaking/squealing.
In otherwise "normal" daily driving of my eGV70, I suppose the operation of regenerative braking greatly reduces the "work load" of the friction brakes, which can lead to a glazing condition.
Yup, it's a little bit of a scary feeling when it happens the first time, but you quickly realize it's nothing to worry about. On rainy or snowy days, after I get home, I used to leave my cars in neutral in the garage without setting the handbrake just to avoid this problem.Yep, they all have semi-metallic brakes which causes this. It's happened to me as well on many others cars I owned previously, but the brake squeal has never been as pronounced (LOUD) or as frequent (almost daily) as the squeal on this eGV70. It usually happens on the first drive of the day when I/we back out of the garage. The squeal sound started last month when the weather became colder and damp. My eGV70's brakes never squeal when I brake going in the forward direction - only when I'm backing up.This happened to me on entirely different cars too previously, especially after a touchless car wash at the corner of the street and leaving the car parked for the night afterwards. ^ Roger that. Unfortunately we can't leave the eGV70 in neutral and the e-parking brake applies automatically when we select Park. Going forward I suppose I could release the e-parking brake after parking the vehicle in the garage, as a test.Yup, it's a little bit of a scary feeling when it happens the first time, but you quickly realize it's nothing to worry about. Whenever I pull into the garage and put the vehicle in Park, as you know, the parking brake automatically engages. Before I turn off the ignition I release the parking brake. That seems to resolve the issue.Hey All. I'm happy to report that the spirited drive I went on yesterday with regen braking set to Level 0 and my carrying out several heavy braking events has completely resolved the 'brake squeal on reversing' issue that I had reported. It's all good now.
I think I'll repeat this process monthly, particularly during the winter months.
Thanks for that RonG. I don't know if that's related to the particular issue I was experiencing, but going forward I'll do likewise.Whenever I pull into the garage and put the vehicle in Park, as you know, the parking brake automatically engages. The Uyuni White has been traded in, but I'll take some snap shots of the two matte cars together once the crappy weather clears up.Post some pics including some beside your Uyuni White model.
Where are you located? I thought the US currently only has the 4 gray scale colors for now.
Very NICE! That is the colour I would have selected for my 2023 GV70e, but it was not available for the electric models in Canada. According to the Genesis Canada website it's not available on the 2024 models either. Ours come from Korea.
Northern California. We flew down to Scottsdale, Arizona to pick this one up back in September. It was impossible to find this color combo anywhere in the western US.Where are you located? I thought the US currently only has the 4 gray scale colors for now.
Nice! Cardiff Green makes yours an absolute unicorn if you ask me. I would be seriously amazed if you ever see another eGV70 in that same colour combo out in the wild.Northern California.
