  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

I hear ya. I've been using the app or fob to preheat the car if it's left outside. And I always keep a snow brush or two in the house just to avoid having to use the one in the car if there is ice that's gotten into those gaps that you're referring to. I forgot if you're also in the Lower Mainland, but our snow here is so wet there's almost always ice that builds up on our cars and road surfaces.
Oh it's the Montréal area, we get all sorts of snow here, but sometimes it's so cold that it's all fluffy with no ice buildup.

I use a brush of the silicone type, since there's no threads like the other type of brushes, there's no droplets of ice forming at the end of those, which could scratch the paint (They tend to be bigger and grab a lot more snow too).

Thanks

It's Vik Black metallic.

It was raining all weekend, so when I used it it got covered in dirt, but once it's dried up here I will clean it and take some pictures.
Oh very nice. I've always felt that Vik Black would have been the colour that we'd see the most out in the wild because, well, black goes with anything. Haha

But for some reason, other than the Vik Black 3.5T that I had a couple of years ago, I've never seen another black GV70 out on the road.

I've found another difference which makes no sense.

UK cars do not get the ability to have an extra 'My Drive' mode that we can configure with for example Sport Motor, Sport steering, comfort suspension etc.

We only get the Eco/Comfort/Sport modes plus the three terrain modes.

I'm not sure if I recall correctly, but I think the US version doesn't even get the 3 Terrain modes. Canada gets the My Mode as well as the Terrain modes, on top of the standard Eco/Comfort/Sport.

One thing I occasionally wish that Genesis had done is to have a Sport+ mode where the 483 hp remains available as long as you keep it in that mode. I get that they want to preserve the battery charge as much as possible, but it'd be cool if they could figure it out.

UK also gets the green interior which we don't have on the EV.

My wish would be to have the overlapping nav instructions on the front camera feed (Augmented Reality) as they have in South Korea, the sort of thing that only hangs on a software update...!

That would be nice but one review I read had the reviewer continuously press the boost button (every ten seconds press it again) and it kept working. I think the theory of the boost button is that one only needs that power in an emergency or when passing. I would agree with the latter but in case of an emergency it would be nice to have it available to my foot and not have to remember to push the button.

Why Genesis, and other manufacturers, do something like this makes no sense to me. Once they can program the car like the Canadian version to have all the different driving modes, why limit it in other locations and on various ways? It can't be the regulators; they couldn't care less if a car had different optional drive modes. But this is unfortunately common in the industry. At least Genesis is offering us a small luxury vehicle; most of its competitors make one get a "boat" in order to get luxury features (e.g., MB, Audi, BMW).

The way the cars in different countries are equipped comes down, according to the people I talk to in the industry anyway, to the national office for each specific country. The national office does whatever marketing research and other due diligence to determine what features that want in the cars they sell in their country, with a target price point that they feel their customers would accept. Obviously some companies like Porsche and Ferrari will just let you spec a car any way you want as long as you're prepared to pay for it, but I guess more mainstream, even "mass market", brands like Genesis prefer to operate within narrower pricing models, and that's partly what limits the options that are available in each country.

Or I could be completely wrong. Lol

Oh, and I do know about being able to repeatedly press the Boost button. The salesperson insisted I do that on my first test drive! Haha

I use it less and less now, mostly because even the 429 hp, and the way an EV delivers all that torque, already allows us to beat 90% of cars off the line.

There's also market-specific regulations, like in North America, no TV in the dash (But perfectly acceptable in Europe) - That might also dictate the absence of some features (Like the augmented reality display I mentioned earlier, as well as cameras instead of side view mirrors like some brands offer in other markets).

There's no way to use the 483 continuously, so I don't think having a sport+ mode would really be an issue. The boost button needs to go. Thrust should be controlled with the right foot only.

As this seems to be the only eGV70 thread (shouldn't we have our own sub forum by now? lol) Question for the fellow eGV70 owners that live in snowy climates, what do I need to consider when looking for a snow tire/wheel setup for this car? I usually depend on tirerack.com to tell me what tire/wheel combos will fit my cars, but it seems they don't have anything setup for the eGV70. I've also heard that different tire/wheel sizes will effect the efficiency of the battery.

Also, and this is not snow tire related, I have the 'base' eGV70 (i.e. no Prestige), should the door arm rests have active ambient lighting or is this just a Prestige thing?

Welcome to the thread! I recently did a search on Tire Rack and found quite a few winter tires for the eGV70. There's lots of summer and all-season ones too.

Edit: I see now you were referring to both tires and wheels. I was only looking for tires in my search.

As for the ambient lighting in the door, I do believe that's only for the Prestige model.

I went with tires and wheels the dealership offered, as I took the road hazard extended warranty and that would only cover items they sold. Ended up with Pirellis that do just fine.

Thanks Sebring! I took delivery of a Vik Black eGV70 at the end of December and love it!

I did see the tires that are available, but usually count on them to give me good wheel/tire combos, so I know they have the right bolt pattern, offset to clear the calipers, etc...plus, when I purchase the wheel/tire combo from them, they come mounted and balanced so I can slap them right on the car!!! We just got some snow here in the Chicagoland area and I did notice some slippage that I probably wouldn't have, had I had some snow shoes on her!

-37 this morning. It’s an awesome winter car. The heat pump works well, “snow” mode provides a noticeable traction bump over normal drive mode (locks AWD, reduces regen levels, less responsive accelator inputs and reduced power), there are no creaks or squeaks, and the suspension remains compliant (the opposite of Tesla). Efficiency is out the window, but it is for ICE cars at those temps.

I went with Michelin XIce2 on 19 in rims. Went through a couple of snowfalls and so far so good. I was quite surprised at how smooth the ride was. Wanted to go down to 18-in rims but it only cleared the caliper casing on the front by millimeters.

I agree. It's about -12⁰C here in Vancouver and we had quite a bit of ice on the roads yesterday and today. I'm only using the OEM Michelins and the car is absolutely amazing. To be fair, the gas-powered GV70 (and the GV80 too) were great in the snow last winter as well, but this eGV70 is really great with how smooth the power is delivered.

I would just add that it's not a good idea to keep the car in one of the normal driving modes and setting it to iPedal. Regen braking doesn't offer the feedback you want from the tires in slippery conditions, so do what Jaws suggested and use Snow mode.

I used to run Pirelli Sottozero IIs on my R8 V10 in the winter and Blizzaks on the TTRS. To be honest, I haven't come across a truly terrible winter tire. Any proper winter tire is going to perform miles better than all-seasons in the winter and let's not even talk about summer tires.
