If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

I had Pirellis Sotto Zeros on my Lexus, but the tread life was absolutely horrible, barely lasted three winters, less than 20K.

Lol, for some reason, 20,000 km sounds really good to me. Mind you, the OEM Bridgestones on my NSXes from the 90s were lucky to make it to 10,000 km.

I used to run Pirelli Sottozero IIs on my R8 V10 in the winter and Blizzaks on the TTRS. To be honest, I haven't come across a truly terrible winter tire. Any proper winter tire is going to perform miles better than all-seasons in the winter and let's not even talk about summer tires.

Beautiful car by the way!

We finally got snow here, it's been cleared out but as highways and main roads are fine, there's a build-up of ice at every stop sign in residential streets. Just to see how it behaves in those conditions, I left the car in Normal with full-regen. Yes I feel it tugging a bit when coming to a stop, but it really isn't half as bad as I expected. The regen still does a decent job of bringing the car to a stop (And you feel it working) without any of the audible feedback a pulsating ABS would racket in your ears.

We got merely -7 here, I have yet to see what something like -25 would do to range (Don't know if I'll get to test it anytime soon because it's a really mild winter so far - Should have seen -18/-20 but hasn't happened yet...).

Always had Blizzaks, as far as I can remember... Will see what the Pirellis have in store for me!

I have had great success with Blizzaks. The last set I had were on a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. After 4 seasons of use, there was still 11/32" of tread left when I sold them. New is 13/32". They are quiet, give a soft ride and the traction is great. I recently installed a new set of Blizzaks and aftermarket 19" wheels on my GV70E. I highly recommend.

For those of you going down to 19" rims on your winter setup, what tire size did you choose? Did you notice any difference on the 19s?

I'll let someone on 19's answer this one, sorry I went all the way down to 18's because potholes are a notorious calamity in the Montréal area...! 😒

You probably know this, but just in case...there's quite a few of these tire size calculators on the internet. I find this one quite useful as it considers wheel size and most importantly wheel offset and tells you if there's an impact on the new setup's ability to clear calipers and suspension struts. Check it out:

Just following on with what Wolf said, I haven't changed over to winter tires on the GV70 but i can give an example of going from 20" summer setup to a 19" winter setup on the TTRS.

The summer wheels were 9x20 with an offset of ET52. These were paired with 255/30ZR20 tires. The winter setup was an 8x19 wheel also on ET52 running 225/40ZR19 tires. This winter setup was what the Audi dealer gifted me when I bought the car, because it's the factory spec for winter setups on that car. But if I were to choose my own aftermarket setup, I would have gone for something more aggressive in terms of offset because the tires/wheels were noticeably inset into the fender with the factory set. They cleared the massive calipers but i added spacers all around to make the stance look more proper. The suspension compliance was not changed in any meaningful way because Audi has some suspension wizardry going on with their Magnetic Ride shock absorbers.

Hope that helps in some way.

Drove the GV70 about 10 km in cold weather last night. Average consumption was 42 kWh/100 km which more than 2x greater than I’d see in the summer. The electric consumption graph showed that 55% of the consumption was due to climate and battery conditioning which was running @ 6 kW! I find that the HVAC uses 1-1.5 kW when the cabin is up to the set temperature, so this means that approximately 5 kW are just being used to condition the battery. A quick estimate means that I’d be able to get about 150-170 km @ 100% SOC. I should note the car wasn’t cold soaked. It came from a heated garage (arround 5C) to the outside. The technology and charging infrastructure needs to come a long way in the next 10 years.

I went with Blizzak DM-V2 255/50 R19 which are the same OD as the stock 20" Michelins. I don't notice any difference in the ride; if anything they might be slightly smoother. They are mounted on Euro Design Tech Matte Black Machined 19 X 8.5" wheels. +40 offset.
I posted a picture back on November 11/23 on page 22 of this thread; Post #433. The wheels fit perfectly.

Looked way better with the spacers indeed! 👍 Do you miss that car or is the GV70 electric pure bliss? 😉
I miss pretty much every car I've ever had. But for sure, the eGV70 is one of the best all-rounders out there. I'm surprised and also relieved they're not everywhere!

What are you guys doing for rust protection for your eGV70? Anything at all? I am thinking of spray on rust protection like Krown or otherr brands but not sure if that voids the warranty. Manual mentions nothing and dealership was just recommending electronic rust protection which I am skeptical of.

From what I heard about electronic rust protection was that it was pretty much a gimmick and rather ineffective, but someone might have more solid than hear-of-say on that topic...

Where are you located? Do you garage your car? How long do you anticipate you would keep the car?

I live in the Montréal area, so as far as salt use on the road, it's pretty much as bad as it gets.

But the car sleeps outside, so when it's really cold, the salt isn't active as it would be in a heated garage. When there's a few days above zero, I go to a hand or touchless car wash, so it's properly cleaned from all the grime.

The car has a full PPF in it, although that won't do anything for the underbody, it should help with the body itself.

A lot of people don't do anything and some older cars still look very clean, yes rust can be an issue in the long run but it looks like car makers have considerably improved on the rust protection they apply in the past decades. I'm thinking of keeping the car 6-7 years (Our friend SebringSilver will probably have acquired 10-12 cars by then...😉), depending on how the battery will hold in the long run and happy with the car I am.

So this morning I had the car maxed out to 100% (Hadn't done it in weeks), at -7C it stated the range was 335 Km. I did 71 Km going to and back from work, getting a good deal of traffic going (Good for recapturing energy) and a bit more decent highway speed coming back, but with some stretches of traffic too.

Since the car was plugged in the morning, I used that to warm it up to 22 degrees, but then lowered that to 18.5 and used the Driver Only mode. I drove it in Eco mode and i-Pedal (Except on the highway where I set it at level 3).

When I came back home, the car stated it had 80% battery and 295 Km of range left, my return trip was using around 24 Kw/h. So it used 40 Km of range on a 71 Km trip, not bad.

I think the recent snow storms where I spent more time warming up the car while cleaning it than actually going anywhere made it rather pessimistic in its guesstimate, but I'd rather have that than too optimistic and end up stranded...🤷‍♂️
