  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As our old BH cars age, corrosion of major electrical components can become an issue. One often overlooked area that can cause some really bad headaches: grounds.

While this video is not a Genesis, it highlights a common issue with old cars (and 3 year old trucks if you live in upstate NY): Grounds corrode, and when they do all hell can break loose with the electrical system and everything connected to it. Our cars have electric power steering like this GM truck, so if you ever run into something weird when you turn the wheel (lights dim, errors pop up on the dash, etc.), check your grounds.

If you haven't heard of South Main Auto and you're a DIY'er, spend part of your next lazy weekend watching a few of Eric O's videos. You might learn something you can apply to diagnosis and repair of your own car.

Thanks for posting this - I have an electrical issue (just posted about it today) that leads to a no-start condition. Do you know of any resources that have all the chassis ground locations documented?

There are many grounds. There is no single list AFAIK. But here are several ground locations from my 2009 manual (the ones that begin with "G"):

I kept having a new battery go dead in a couple of days on my 2012 3.8, and was checking grounds, etc. Long story short, turn out it was the BT OBDII dongle I had plugged in. Apparently it decided not to go into standby mode any more. Replaced it with a newer one, and no more problems!

How did you end up with a maintenance guide? I looked for Haynes and Chilton and neither seem to have this vehicle. I ended up subscribing to the Hyundai Service web site, which is a good start but the interface is a pretty big challenge. Would love to be able to flip through a book instead.
