  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I previously posted that I had a weird problem where I could not start my 5.0 Genesis. Holding down the brake pedal and pushing the start button did nothing. The battery in the key was fine and the brake lights lit up when I hit the brake pedal. It happened about 5 times including 2 where I could not start for about 10 minutes. I mentioned that if I took it to the dealer they would probably state that they could not replicate the problem and thus do nothing.

Since then I have had the black navigation screen on startup problem. When I started the car the screen would be black or I would only get the Genesis emblem. Another time I got a huge digital clock on the screen.

I scheduled an appointment with the dealer. The day before the appointment I stopped at a traffic light, the engine went dead and the electronic parking brake engaged. I restarted the engine and did not have that problem again.

Obviously there is something wrong with the car. I told the dealer about this and said I am not making this up, please do something. They checked the computer chip and found nothing. Of course, they said they could not replicate any of these problems and could do nothing.

Any thoughts?

I have no idea what causes these issues, as my car has fortunately not exhibited this behavior yet.

My recommendation for getting the dealer to pay attention: Record events such as this on your phone, and bring these videos to the dealership. If they still give you the "can't replicate" answer, politely demand that they get Hyundai involved, or contact Hyundai customer support yourself and politely demand that they send on of their engineers/technicians out to diagnose the problem.

Record events on your phone, keep a log of all you interactions with the dealership service departments and with Hyundai. Be polite, but don't let them brush you off with the "can't replicate" response. Escalate the issue with Hyundai if no one is taking ownership at the dealership or at Hyundai corporate.

My 2 cents, I hope you will get this resolved quickly and without too much hassle ...

What model year is your Genesis?

Did they do an obd (onboard diagnostics scan) to see if a code popped up?

With all those probs. , some sort of code must have been generated.

Sounds like you're dealing with amateurs - that's the name of the game, nowadays. Try a different dealer.

The dealer claims they did a diagnostic and found nothing. I really like the idea of using my iPhone to record a video of these problems next time they occur. I also am going to try another dealer. The car is a 2015 5.0.
