  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

FYI, my head rest were tested this past Tuesday by a logging truck that gave me a couple rear end love taps. Both headrest activated. No one in passage seat. In my case traveling @ 67mph on a 4 lane road and in our side lane. The logging truck was going faster than I bumbled me a couple times. I thank god for the headrest, 25 years ago I was rear ended in Miami at traffic light and had some minor injury's with no damage to car. This time the safety devices worked. I am even more happier now that I purchased a Genesis.

Thank God no injuries. I believe this active headrest feature is an under-appreciated, overlooked safety gem in the Genesis.

In most cases the head rest on the Genesis snaps back into place. I know on my bimmer the headrest has to be replaced. Most newer cars have this feature. The IIHS now rates rear crash protection/head restraint ratings. The Genesis gets the highest rating.

No one was in passager set and that head rest could be reset. But drivers head rest must be replaced.

Is the head restraint electical/electronic in any way or is it a mechanical system?

This .pdf was included in another thread about the head rests and it makes no mention of any electrical connections or wiring. A pretty neat bit of engineering if they were able to do it all with old fashioned springs and mechanical triggers.

The active headrest feature is how most cars get their 5 star crash ratings. I work for TSTech , they make seats for Honda

I was rear ended a while back standing still in traffic. It was the guy 2 cars behind me that hit they guy directly behind me hard enough to break his seat which then collided with me. My wife had recently had rather complicated neck surgery and I like the believe the Genny saved her from a wheel chair. Definitely a nice safety feature.

Hyundai web site list as Electronic.

Actually it is mechanical as the deployment is spring operated however an electronic sensor is what activates it or pulls the latch if you prefer. Technically both are correct however electronically sounds better. ;)
