  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

This morning I only had two hours sleep so i drove with my emergency brake on for a little past my mail box down the street until my car beeped alerting me I left it on.

Does the genesis have a thing where it will turn off when driving or was the actual brake still being used?

I wouldn't think that it would harm it this one time?

I have a 2012 Genesis.

Sorry maybe this should be posted in wheels forum? Running on a few hours sleep, please move if necessary.

I imagine the worst it could do is wear down the shoe that is applied for the emergency brake. Of course it's not recommended to driving around with that on, but your car is fine.

Not sure about 3.8, but in my 2012 4.6 the brake is off automatically when you start driving.

I think that would be for the electronic parking brake only, which is part of the Tech package.
OP has a V6 which may or may not have it.

I have the 2012 3.8 with just premium w/o the electronic brake, I'll just have to remember to always check before moving the vehicle. I only went maybe 100 feet or less. Thanks guys.

I remember my cousin drove all way from home to Costco (about 25 miles) in his van on emergency brake, not noticing it either. New brake pads after that!
I had Infiniti M35 before, and you couldn't even accelerate with this brake on, so you see right away what's wrong. I guess would be nice if there is sound or beep if you are driving with brake on.

There is actually a chime when you drive with it on as it has happened to me as well.

Yeah there was a beep that alerted me about it a few seconds after driving down the road.

My bad. I thought all Gennys are equipped with electronic parking brakes. In any event, 100 feet shouldn't have done any damage to the car.
