  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, here's one I hope you don't encounter. Went out to my month-old Genesis, started it up, put it in Drive and nothing. EPB wouldn't release. Drive, park, neutral, reverse, pull, push on EPB switch. Turned car on/off...nothing. The Amber EPB light on the dash just glared at me from the dash. Called roadside assistance and after 3 attempts and almost 3 hours, finally got a a flatbed to the house where he had to drag the car onto the flatbed. Just talked to the dealer....over 2 weeks to get a new EPB module. They are seeing if they can authorize a rental.

Geez.. I wonder if this is another Continental control module. If so, with all the reported electronics problems Continental is having with their stuff in multiple brands of cars, they are quickly becoming the Lucas Electric of our day. Thanks for heads up.

Do we need to start a sticky for electrical issues? What do you think?

Thank you for reporting this, Hyundailvr...

That is probably not a bad idea seeing as how the 2nd gen seems to have quite a few....

One thing to try - push on the brake pedal - then push on the epb paddle to release as per the manual.

They want you to push on the brake first before you can do lots of things - this is lawyer engineering at work.

These damn cars are so full of gremlins..... why don't they FIX these issues first, then worry about sheet metal designs and adding more crap that doesn't work properly?!

I've had two Hyundais. One Azera, didn't have issues, but, rode like a tank. This Genesis has had more issues (2010 was the worst) than I've ever had with ANY car I've owned.

I'm going back to Toyota or if possible a Lexus (used). I'm tired of these issues!!!!

A bad poster me. I should have followed up and said that my dealer took good care of me and the part came in as scheduled. No issues since.

I had a problem with the new Sonata when it first came out...bad front whell bearings. Once it was fixed, best car I'd ever owned until it was totalled in a crash...with over 60K miles on it. So, now that I've shaken the bugs out of this car, I'm hoping for the same.

Lots of luck. My 2015 Genesis has been disabled for 23 days, and the part for their latest "guess" will not arrive for another week. I have requested a rental/loaner and been rebuffed several times. Seems like the "5 year bumper-to-bumper" warranty has a hole in it big enough to drive a Mack truck through.

Could you please let us know if you get a loaner?

You have a car less that has been disabled for 23 days under warranty and they don't even authorize a loaner? Check on lemon laws in your state (I assume Tennessee: http://www.lemonlaw.com/tennessee-lemon-law-questions.html), get a lawyer involved (or maybe start by threatening to get one involved at the dealership for starters), then start legal action against the dealership and Hyundai.

For a new vehicle in this price range (or any price range really), I expect that they take care of their customers. Most of us don't own a car for fun, this is a necessity for daily life (work, groceries, activities, kids, etc.).

If Hyundai wants to spin off Genesis as a luxury brand, I wish them good luck with this kind of attitude towards their customers. I am considering leasing a loaded (>$50k) Genesis - this is making me question going down that avenue.

I have in fact never in almost 30 years of car ownership had a vehicle that was disabled for more than 1 day. A loaner is the least they should provide.

Raise some hell with them, every day. Leaving you without a means of transportation is absolutely unacceptable. Raise a stink with Hyundai corporate too, not just the dealership.

My dealership will give loaners if car must stay for repairs......
You should name the dealership so all know who not to buy from

So does mine (Wallace Hyundai in Stuart Florida). One of the main things I look for before buying a new car. Actually one of the first questions I ask the salesman then I proceed back to the Service area and ask one of the service advisors for confirmation. I have found out the hard way many years ago that not all salesman are truthfull.

Wallace carries 7 loaners on the lot for when anyone needs to leave their car there overnight for repairs. Great service department and great people. Actually just went there and purchased a 2016 Santa Fe Limited with the Ultimate package for my wife this past week. Ask for Larry Burell if anyone is in the area looking to buy a new ride.

Thanks for your comments. The car has now been in the shop for 48 consecutive days. Only on day 35 did I get a loaner. I was living in Tennessee, but I now reside in Canada, and there are no lemon laws in Canada.

is it based on where you now reside or in the state in which the car was purchased?

Not sure, but I purchased the car in Canada. It failed while I was on a road trip in California.

Currently sitting here right now without my 2016 Genesis after less than 200 miles driven because the EPB locked up and wouldn't disengage. Car has been at the dealer since Friday and I don't know when I'll get it back. Had to have it towed away with less than 200 miles. Seriously? 😩

This just happened to me a few weeks ago. Two different tow trucks came and left without towing because I wouldn't sign a waiver. Called the dealer and they came to the car, plugged in some contraption to clear the code and drove it back to the dealer. After 3 days, they could not find anything wrong even though they were getting a warning from Bluelink that the EPB was not working properly. They contacted Hyundai and they told the dealer to ignore the Bluelink warning, that it was something wrong on their end. 2 days later I got my car back. I just received a Monthly Vehicle Report and the error is gone. Go figure.

I have had my turn in the barrel with a locked parking brake. Once the car got dragged onto the flatbed tow truck and taken to the dealer it was ready for me to drive away in a few hours.

Dealer said it was just a blown fuse, although the service rep didn't know which one. The tow truck driver and I checked both EPB fuses and they were fine. The only we didn't check...didn't think to look there...was the parking brake switch fuse. If I encounter locked parking brake again you can be sure I'll check that one too.

Dealer never was able to tell me which fuse was blown...I guess I have to believe him since the fix was quick, but it sure seems strange that a blown fuse would do that. If true it sure is a poor design...
