End of an Era

Got in an accident about a month ago. Pulling through a 4 way stop. I was going strait and so was the other motorist, however they were coming from my right. When I was 3/4 through the intersection, the other car collided with me in my rear passenger door. They must not have seen me and started to pull through the intersection. Relatively low speed collision. Luckily no one was hurt. Initial repair estimates were ~$3900 based on a photo appraisal. Once in the shop, it was evident it would be much more. Damage to the quarter panel, side skirt and underlining high strength steel shot the price up to $14,000+ (body shop said they stopped counting). Insurance appraiser took one look at the door sill and totaled it. Insurance gave me a reasonable amount for the car. They even reimbursed me for the pads and rotors I installed a month before the accident. As a replacement I purchased a G70, solely so I could still post here.

Lucky you on the write off! (And not being injured of course...goes without saying) I got screwed with a $12k repair on a previous vehicle, which burned off $6k in resale value when I traded it in, thanks to CarFax. Would have much preferred the writeoff.

Definitely got lucky.

I’m not sure what the laws are near you, but insurance should cover decreased resale value from an accident. It’s called a loss of value claim and filed separate to the initial claim. Insurance companies try to keep it hush hush to save a little cash, but will give it to you if you ask. I believe it is around 10% of the value of the car.

Wild! I suffered very nearly identical damage to an SUV once, but $3500 damage like your initial estimate. I guess mind didn't bend the door sill or frame. Ouch.

Wild that you could now buy it on auction. Lol. Crazy.Good find.

Ouch! Same color as mine.... Glad no one was hurt! My old Acura TL suffered a similar fate.

On a side note, too bad that you can't get some parts off it - I could really use a front driver side parking sensor & maybe the mirrors (the guts of mine are toast).
