  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Engine Break-In tips

OK, lets get this back on topic. I switched the factory oil at 1200 miles to Mobil 1 5w-30 (I live in a warm weather climate). Although you can't extrapolate too much from the color of the oil, I have had the car for 10 months and put on 6000 miles and the oil looks the same color as when I first put it in (amber). I think I am going to change it when the year is up and do a UOA (used oil analysis), just for sh*ts and giggles. I have a sneaking suspicion that the oil coupled with the Tau engine and filtration system (not to mention the moderate climate I live in) is going to suggest longer oil change intervals. I'll post the results soon.

I made almost the exact same switch. I changed to Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance at about 1200 miles, but then later changed to Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy at 7500 miles (I am planning on staying with that from now on).

Stay thirsty my friend.

Where are you doing your UOA's...and what's the cost? Ultimately that's the best way to judge when an oil change is really needed. When I was flying F/A-18's we did regular SOAP (spectrometric oil analysis program) samples on the engines. The oil was only replaced when a SOAP sample result indicated that it was needed. SOAP analyzes the oil for things like trace metals and chemical contaminants. When the levels get to a certain point, you replace the oil. If you are able to get a cheap and reliable analysis, it may be more cost effective than scheduled oil and filter changes.

Blackstone Labs: I think it's $22.50, plus 2 bucks for shipping.

Well thanks a lot, very helpful...

Maniace1181. Sorry to "rain on your parade", but, like dimitry, danieltoye101@msn.com, and nearwater stated in their replies to you on your duplicate post at "New Genesis 3.8 Tech...Great deception created by the dealer...", there's really no excuse for not taking a thorough look at your "baby" before you drive it off the lot.

Dealers are not always to blame for defects, and the vast majority of dealers will fix them on the spot if they've missed them before handing the vehicle over to you. Any marr, scratch or damage they can't resolve is certainly grounds for refusing delivery, or getting a nice discount.

Dealers are required by Hyundai to walk you through a detailed description of all the features and functions of the car when you take delivery. If your dealer failed to do that, I'd recommend that you call Hyundai Customer Service and make that point clear to them. If they offered that service and, in the "heat of the moment" you declined it, about all I can say is "caveat emptor". Instead of dis'ing the dealer in a public forum...I'd just be happy that they werer taking care of these issues after taking delivery.

@TJPark01; Thanks for the advice!

@mcginnpm; We did go through the car together, but back seat is not really a feature Hyundai requires the dealer to explain... and as far as dis'ing a dealer, I don't remember naming anybody, I was merely asking for advice on what to expect and what could be done and I didn't see much advice in your replies thus far. Anyhow, I don't think this conversation is going anywhere!
