  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone - apologies if this is a silly question but I have always owned 8 cylinder vehicles so wasn't sure if this is normal or not - I have a 2017 3.8 and notice that when I'm sitting idle there is a distinctive chatter - not too loud to hear from inside with windows up but is noticeable if outside the car, or when I put the windows down - with or without the air conditioning on - is this normal for this type of engine? It only has 1000 miles on it.

Believe I have read here that the GDI engines do have a bit of chatter to them particularly on start up.
Nature of the beast.

Does it sound like:

Hey batter, batter. Hey batter, batter ...

If so, probably just a nearby little league baseball game during the summer months.

It is most likely the Direct Injection system. I had two Lexus vehicles and they had the same noise.

Oh, you mean clatter.
