  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was just reading an article from a blog of an influential automotive journalist in Korea and thought you may find it interesting:

According to him and his contact, Genesis is expected to get a mild face-lift in the early 2011. On the powertrain side, both 3.3 (not available in State side) and 3.8 engines will receive direct fuel injection with 300 and 350 horsepowers, respectively. And the both engines will also receive a 8-speed transmission sourced from ZF (Currently domestic models, unlike U.S. spec cars, are equipped with ZF 6-speed, not Aisin).

For 4.6 liter engine, it is more like speculation. V8 may receive direct fuel injection with possible output of over 400 horsepower. It will be interesting to see what approach Hyundai will take: An supercharged engine, as shown in motor shows? or GDI (Hyundai-speak for direct injection)?

As far as sheet metal goes, not much info is addressed.

For those who can read Korean, check out his blog: http://www.journalog.net/mobidic/26692
Elsewhere in his blog, you will also find an interesting article on Hyundai's GDI engine line up that will show up within 3 years. One of engines mentioned is a 4-cylinder 2.0 GDI turbo engine, expected to debut in Sonata (210 horses) and Genesis Coupe (280 horses).

Damn, if the 3.8 gets 350hp and the same fuel economy thanks to DI I will seriously consider upgrading. V8-like power w/ V6 fuel economy = win in my book.

With that said, I doubt the validity of these claims. Especially since they state the 2011 will use a ZF 8 speed auto and not the Hyundai-built 8 speed that has been in development for quite some time. Who knows though, maybe Hyundai is having problems with their new 8 speed auto.

They are aiming to improve something every year on the Tau engine, no surprise if they add GDI in 2011. If it does go GDI, it should be right above 400 HP and 360 torque.

Also, it would be nice if ZF was the standard here as well for our V6's

Thanks for the translation! Sure is exciting to see what will come around...

I am also surprised to hear that ZF will provide the transmission, not Hyundai Powertec. However, News around Hyundai Powertec's 8-speed have been softer.

As a Korean myself, I would be very happy to see Hyundai launch a good 8-speed. But, whoever the manufacturer be, an 8-speed must be a sure thing to come for Genesis.

Thanks for the info.
If Hyundai offers all those and keep the price about the same, it'll be an even stronger competitor against German and Japanese lux car makers.
Can't wait to see the newer Gen.
