I just bought a 2012 Genesis 3.8 sedan with 7000 miles on it. I have been driving and enjoying the car for a week now. Now all of a sudden, I go out for a Sunday drive and the car has no power when I step on the gas pedal. The engine will not rev higher than about 1500rpm.

Has anyone experience this problem or did I make a grand mistake on trusting a Korean auto maker?

Get it to the dealer and use the warranty before you come to grand conclusions about grand mistakes so you can avoid a grand headache. There are millions of trouble free miles on these cars, and its too early to grieve over your purchase. Good luck!

Warranty...and loaner to drive while its being fixed. Call the dealer in advance and tell the service manager why you are bringing the car in and that you are calling in advance to make sure he has a loaner ready for you when you get there. Don't ask for a loaner just let them know you expect that from a dealer for the Genesis.

There are a series of TSB's covering cold start issues and reflashimg to ECU. Take it to the dealer and make sure you accurately document the situation. This will help the dealer.

Wow!! That exact same thing happened to me three nights ago and my car is still in the shop. I obviously know little about cars but will try to repeat the dealer's explanation. Perhaps others can help me out here.

Apparently there is a fuel sensor near the engine that forces fuel into the engine. That part is defective. Apparently it's going to take them 3 days to get the part. I have 13,000 miles on the car. I'll be without my new car for 4 days. Shame on Hyundai for not having this part more readily available. I've never owned a car, especially a new one, that was in the shop that long for a mechanical problem.

JD Power means nothing to me. It's my experience that counts. I've had countless radio issues but was always thankful my car always would get me from point A to B. I'm not sure that remains the case. Buying this car has been a mistake for me. I understand others have had a more pleasant experience.

mobetterman, as others have suggested, ask for a loaner. Don't assume they'll provide one especially with their ancient parts distribution practices.

I've tried to keep an open mind for the same reason. I just fear the problems won't stop.

Please keep us posted on what's happening. I'm curious if you have the same problem and how long it will take to fix it.

Give us a break. No other brands ever have any problems? My car has a 10 year/100 thou warranty on this kind of problem.

I had a similar problem with my '09 Genesis 3.8. Turned out is was a problem with the Throttle Body. Since the throttle is a "drive by wire" arrangement, there is an electrical sensor and actuator in the engine that controls the actual throttle position. They replaced mine under warranty and the problem has never returned.

I think GDI technology has improved but not perfected to the point of EFI. The reliability of the Genesis sedan was based on EFI V8 and V6 engines and prior to Hyundai built 8sp transmission. GDI higher compression ratio and extreme high pressure injection have yet to withstand the higher mileage reliability test. That really applies to all manufacturers. Regarding the hope of more powerful cleaner burning durable GDI engines, the jury is still out.

Engine issue solved in record time by Voss Hyundai service reps.

Faulty software was responsible for the engine issues. An ECU update for injector driver was completed and I'm back on the road.
