If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Good day everyone. I have a 2012 Genesis 4.6L which i keep it up well and regular oil changes at the Dealership. recently I went out to start my car to take a road trip and the engine was tapping and what sounded like knocking. As I continued to listen, I was able to determine the bottom end of the engine was fine and not knocking. I was reading and many have stated to check the OCV, which I did. I pulled all 4 and tested them, cleaned them and reinstalled as the bulletin states to do. well, the tapping is still there, a little less noisy but still there, it will go away after about 15mins, but it never did that before. there are NO lights on nor any codes. could use any and all help in this matter. I am not driving the car until this is corrected

Thank you

Start with changing the oil with synthetic and filter again. Some of the dealers send their oil change to one of those jiffy lube.

The oil was changed at the Hyundai dealership 3 weeks ago, I was there waiting for it

I think that his point was that changing the oil is cheap to try. That dealer may have put the wrong weight oil in, which could cause this.
Other than this, I think you next step is to pull the valve covers off and see what's going on.

Joegr... Thank you for clarity. I will do just that.

You read my mind Joegr and worse case they did not change the filter.

I will be changing the oil and filter tomorrow afternoon... I shall reply back with the status

Sorry for the long delay, been raining day after day here. changed the oil and purchased filter from dealership and still no change. Anyone have any other ideas what might be causing this

With the oil changed. Does the tapping go away around 1500-2000 rpm or gets louder at normal temp.? If it goes away it could be your oil pump not having enough pressure.

After about 10 mins or warming the tapping goes away. when first started.. if I rev it up then No the tapping remains.

Okay well - I just realized that post is for the 3.8 engine. You have a 4.6 V8.

I have the same issue it just all the sudden started to happen I took apart the top-end valve cover and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the cams are valves it's a very loud noise sounds like a engine rod oh, I just don't get how it could just start over night. When I rev up the engine on the way down it makes kind of marble rolling together noise. When I unplug one of the injectors the noise goes away, which points to A-Rod I've Been Told. I have the valve covers off and everything looks fine oh, any ideas I know these engines have catastrophic failures and nobody seems to know the reason why

I have always let the dealership change it.. when it stated tapping etc it was after they changed it. 1st. time I changed it follow the advice from here I used the QS 5w-20 FULL SYNTHETIC and 2nd time I used the same, Quaker State 5w-20..FULL SYNTHETIC . she is purring like a kitten again
