  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Was driving my 2016 Genesis last week and the steering wheel locked up and the EPS warning light went on. Over the course of a week it was going on and off. Very dangerous. My first thought was oh shit I have to deal with the dealership and soon. I knew it was under warranty but unsure of as to what. Looked online to see if I could get an idea of the potential problem. I saw a number of similar situations.

Hector at the dealership in Hartford was super cool. Was upfront and honest. Told me they weren't sure what was causing it but they noticed that there were some old codes that were never reset after the work was done about a year ago. (Fyi... I had bought the car from Carvana, 2nd owner.)

They essentially did a full system reboot and the car was as good as new.

Still early but I wanted to give back before I forgot. Also, hats off to Hector at Lia Hyundai in CT. He represented the brand very well.

The steering wheel locked up while driving? You could not turn it? Sounds dangerous.

lol... I got the same light along with a bunch of others over the weekend... but unlike yours, I could still turn my steering wheel with one finger when I turned the car off. Dealer said I need a new ABS sensor... I don't see how ABS sensor would cause the power steering to malfunction like that... it would explain my ESC and TC lights along with my AWD light... possibly even the check engine... Also have AEB and BSD malfunction warnings... it's insane that all these errors would be caused by one sensor, I probably have more problems than that... lol

Well, I have rodents in the area so it wouldn't surprise me if they chewed through something. The foam on the engine block is all chewed up. I didn't mind that being a V8, that stuff was just sound deadening... lol

My EPS indicator light came on. I can still turn but it takes more effort. The local Hyundai/Genesis dealer told me that the entire power steering mechanism needed to be replaced. $6k repair. This is a 2015 Genesis with 83K miles. Seems a ridiculous amount to have to pay while I can continue to steer.

You can still steer but that does not make it sensible long term. I'd look for a junk yard part and independent shop to do it.
