  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Equus: May not be ready for primetime!

I haven't had any problems.

The only thing that I and another Equus owner have noticed is the seatback drivers seat doesn't seem to cool, which I thought was because of the seat massage. I don't know if this is an "official" problem or a expected consequence of the massage seat. The other owner was going to get his checked out-don't know if he did or not.

NOLa

I think I'm the other Equus owner who commented on this. I haven't had it checked out yet, basically due to laziness on my part; I figured I'd just wait until I had to do my first oil change, mention it to them then, and see if they knew anything about it. If anyone else talks to a dealer about this concern before I do, please share the info with all of us!

Here's something.

Not bad for a 1st year model (well for the US market).

This is really unfortunate. I've been away from this forum for some time and elected to return because of curious what others were saying about the Equus. I love the vision of this car, but some of the items at the forefront appear to be an issue for eidderfliw in this case. Some questions/comments that came to mind are:

- eidderfliw, you keep mentioning "visits" to the shop for these issues. It was my understanding that as part of Hyundai's service they would come and get the car and leave you with a loaner. The days of going to the shop would be over for at least as long as the maintenance warranty was in effect. Was that the case here? Did you just elect to take it in rather than use this service? This is pretty attractive to me since I HATE having to go to the dealer because I just don't feel I have the time for it.

- This car pulling to the left is completely unacceptable in my mind. I test drove an Equus and noticed some vibration in the steering, but drove another and it was smooth as glass. Having the alignmnet done or possibly balancing the tires should alleviate these issues. If it doesn't then I would very upset in the same way you are. Pulling to the left would drive me crazy even if it was relatively slight.

- Also, I completely agree with you about the frustration with the dealer asking you to bring the car in so that you could display to them how the car is pulling left. In my mind they should have taken the car from you at your convenience, left you a loaner, and diagonsed the issue. If they didn't find anything, fine, then maybe it would require you having to prove it to them, but a best effort should certainly be made first, especially in the luxury car market.

- I have a 2006 BMW 750LI and have been very surprised with just how poor the dealer experience and service has been, but I do have some success stories though that are similar to what you are going through. When I first got the car I kept hearing a squeak from the brakes. I took the car in and they didn't ask me to prove anything. They replaced ALL the disc brakes pads for "free" and problem solved. I also had excessive wind noise coming from a seal in the sunroof. I looked online and was shocked to find a TSB on the issue. I took the car to the dealer and told them about it and they said they couldn't find the TSB and thought the wind noise was reasonable. The next time I printed the TSB and brought it in. They did the work and the result was night and day. Absolutely no wind noise and they did wonderful work. Finally, I noticed the car was pulling strangely and it drove me nuts so I took it to a well-respected local german auto shop. They did the alignment and it was worse. I took it back and they went over it again and returned the car and it was even worse. They offered me documentation to prove how the camber, toe, etc. was all perfectly in spec. So then I took it to BMW to have them align it and it came out absolutely perfect. I looked at their documentation and it turns out what BMW considers to be in spec are figures far from 0 and this is what caused the confusion with the other shop. Ultimately, the car has gotten a little unaligned since then, but no so much that I worry about it. It is still within a reasonable range. It is when it gets out of a reasonable range that it would drive me crazy so I know what you are going through. I hope things work out for you and keep us posted.

The fun continues. Recently took the car on a two hour ride up north over the long weekend , to a friends camp for a family outing. It is then that you really notice how the car continues to pull and my arm gets tired and quite uncomfortable in trying to keep the car straight.

I have also started experiencing electrical issues. The front sensors are displaying in the dash, as if there is something in front of the car, when there is nothing there and the proximity entry system every now and then stops working. Have to press the unlock button on the fob. This is very disconcerting for me for two reasons and both based on prior experiences with my Audi A8L. Electrical problems are a nightmare to trouble shoot, most notably the intermittent ones and my experience has been that the problems get worse over time. Even worse, these two issues I mentioned do not necessarily store a trouble code, so I can see a battle with the factory about this.

On that note , when I previously mentioned that Hyundai Canada cannot shoot straight, I was referring to their factory service department. The dealership has been actually very impressive (most notably their Service Manager Brian R.). Let's see how the corporation themselves do:

I have decided to take fellow member 'wavemans' advice and had my attorney construct a very polite but firm letter to the President. I obviously have a lemon and am expecting them to do what any responsible and good corporate citizen should do. When this car is running as it should, it is by far the best car I have ever owned and I have been fortunate enough to have owned some very nice vehicles.

Now, it's not all negative news with me for this car. I mentioned that we went on a family outing way up in Northern Ontario, about 2 hours away from the city of Toronto. Had the whole family with me (wife and children 6 & 8). Driving back at around midnight on a very rural country road , doing the posted limit of 80 km's, I just happened to flick the high beams on at the right moment and saw a large figure coming out of the brush, crossing the road, right in front of me. It was a HUGE MOOSE. Must have been a full grown male, had to have been 7-8 feet tall and I would say 1,500 pounds. Absolutely massive.

I stomped on the brake pedal with both feet and turned fairly quickly to the left to avoid hitting it, he was crossing the road diagonally. I have never been in a car or motorcycle ( I have a Ducati 848) that seemed to have stopped so fast, so efficiently and so smoothly. When having no choice but to turn left, into the opposite lane of traffic which was empty, I was worried about skidding or losing control. The ESC on this car is amazing, it was like I was turning at 10 km's an hour in an empty parking lot! Unbelievable! Again, I will give credit where credit is due and it is most definitely due here.
