  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai is preparing to make a rather bold move with its Genesis, as reports are now stating that the next-generation rear-drive sedan, which we showed you earlier this week, will be sold in Europe. The first-generation of the Genesis sedan never crossed the pond.

The 2015 Genesis will enter the traditional stomping grounds of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi armed with the same 3.8-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 found in the current model. All-wheel drive, a first for the model, will also be available in Europe. "We have to overcome the challenge of competing with established European brands. We expect the Genesis to play a crucial role in improving our brand recognition," Hyundai said in a statement.

Hyundai has done a fair job of changing its image in the US from a budget-minded brand into a legitimate, mainstream competitor that covers a broad swath of the American market, offering cars from the $14,545 Accent to the $61,000 Equus. That movement started in earnest with the Genesis, and it looks like Hyundai is determined to repeat that models success in Europe.

According to Automotive News, the South Korean brand, along with its corporate sibling Kia, have made strides in the tough European market, capturing six percent of the market in 2012. Now the question is, will Europeans that have no shortage of choice embrace the brand's luxury move? What does that mean "never crossed the pond." The Genesis is made in Korea, not the US. Genesis has always been sold in Russia, parts of which are in Eastern Europe.

Im assuming they are refering western europe as that is what is typically considered accross the pond. I did however not realize that the Sedan was sold in Russia that is interesting.

Yes, Western Europe is "across the pond from the US" (Atlantic Ocean), but the Genesis did not cross the pond because it did not come from the US.

Genesis is currently sold in South Korea, Middle East, and Russia. US and Canada have slightly different versions.

Obviously the "across the pond" statement was not written by Hyundai Korea and only has relevance to the writer. Who wrote it and does it really impact world affairs? By the way, Europe is across the Yellow Sea pond from Korea.

Yes I know this but the American writer was saying it will be sold across the pond from the US not that it's going to get shipped across the pond to get to Europe.

I know what he meant, but when he says "never crossed the pond" the word "crossed" is verb, not a noun (location).

Anyway, the phrase "across the pond" is mainly used by Brits when referring to the US. The only people who use that phrase in the US are communists and other degenerates who think that using British terminology is sophisticated.

Thank goodness that we enjoy freedom of speech. Some would have our tongues in chains and put us in elocution prisons.

As we know most media are liberals and communists so that sounds about right.

Sometimes they are just uneducated and mistakenly use a verb as a noun. But if you asked the average person who read that, and who did not know the Genesis was made in South Korea (which would not be surprising since many Hyundai's are made in the USA) one might think the Genesis was also made in the USA from reading that. I am not 100% sure what the author actually knows themselves.

Hyundai is extensively advertised in Russia. Last year the Genesis sedan was featured on a five story high electronic billboard on New Arbat Road, one of Moscow's main thorofares.

PMC having hot flashes and change of life issues? Geez... Goes from providing good data on the gas refund cards to picking on "across the pond" like it is some kind of global chaos. :)
